PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • The incumbent must have ten (10) or more years of clinical and executive leadership experience, including responsibility for fiscal and medical staff management.

  • The incumbent should demonstrate achievement of a high level of professional accomplishment with experience in academic medicine and a portfolio of educational, research or other scholarly activities to the extent that he/she has attained faculty appointment at the associate/professor rank or the equivalent.

  • Experience in a large, advanced, complex health system is essential. Experience within an integrated care system that includes multiple hospitals, a pluralistic medical staff, as well as an insurance product is ideal.

  • A proven track record in improving quality and safety in a complex health system is required. Must be a leader and champion of quality. Significant experience with a proven Quality Improvement System (Lean, Six-Sigma, etc.) is ideal.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care, including physician-hospital relationships, physician practice models, access issues, quality improvement processes, clinical information systems, and the implications of the changing health care environment for medical credentialing are essential.

  • Must be highly strategic with the ability to craft a vision and engage key stakeholders to achieve system-wide goals.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills required to initiate and develop productive working partnerships with all levels of management/leadership and staff. Ability to influence results, garner support and tactfully manage complex relationships. The ability to lead through influence within and across the organization is critical for success. A highly collaborative style is essential.

  • Must have exceptional self-awareness as well as appropriate political skills to be able to successfully navigate through a large, complex, highly-matrixed environment. Must be confident and decisive, but also flexible and adaptable and have good listening skills.

  • Must be comfortable with ambiguity and with operating in a collaborative, shared leadership (matrixed) environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of the HFMG and HFHS.

  • Must be a visible leader one who leads/manages by “walking around” and engaging people at all levels across the health system.  Should be proactive and passionate about quality, service and patient experience.

  • Demonstrated customer service orientation, seeking to understand customer requirements and exercising judgment in meeting their expectations (particularly when there are differences of opinions on needs and services), and unanticipated contingencies or a divergence of ideas/perspectives.

  • Exceptional skills in oral and written communication, persuasion, team-building and negotiation required. The incumbent must be able to clearly articulate and demonstrate commitment to high quality and safe patient care, and the philosophy, mission, vision and values of HFHS and to inspire active support of these in others.

  • High emotional intelligence is essential.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

To be successful in this position, the incumbent must:

  • Must have a track record of personal accomplishments and distinguished academic credentials including the experience and reputation necessary to ensure the continuation and enhancement of the clinical, education and research missions of HFHS.

  • MD, DO, MD/PhD, DO/PhD or equivalent and must be board certified in an ACGME-recognized medical specialty or equivalent certifying body.

  • Having an advanced degree/formal training/experience in business, healthcare administration, or public health is highly advantageous.
