GENERAL SUMMARY:

Overall responsibility for the purchasing function, including inventory control, negotiating vendor agreements, purchasing and product placement, and interfacing with OptimEyes offices on all purchasing related issues. Purchasing functions include, but are not limited to, inventory management of eyeglass frames and contact lenses, vendor relationship management, and managing supply expenses in accordance with plans and objectives. 

 

The Director of Purchasing will integrate the department’s services with Henry Ford OptimEyes’ primary functions, develops/implements policies and procedures that guide or support the services, assesses and improves department performance, and ensures orientation and continuing education of departmental staff on current product. May recommend resources/space needed by the organization and may participate in the selection of outside services. Serves as the brand ambassador of Henry Ford OptimEyes, which strives to meet and exceed the needs of its customers.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Negotiate vendor agreements for frames, contacts, and retail accessories including discounts, co-op, employee frame program, and special events.

·       Purchasing and product placement for company owned offices. Entails selection, pricing, sales analysis, merchandising, preparing information for point-of-sale data entry, and coordinating returns.

·       Marketing Liaison. Coordinate all vendor sponsored projects including continuing education for Optometrists meetings, Franchise Meetings, and Training Seminars.

·       Oversee quarterly physical inventories. Follow-up on discrepancies, coordinate with outside auditors, participate in internal office audits, implement and maintain procedure.

·       Interface with OptimEyes Officers, Directors, OD’s, Managers, and Sales Staff on all Purchasing related issues.

·       Manage the profit and loss of the facility Supply Chain operations.

·       Create a supportive environment for supply chain staff development and the delivery of supply chain solutions.

·       Raise and resolve facility-based supply chain issues and improvement opportunities.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

       Requires high school diploma or GED. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

       Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience with optical background.

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • None
  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the Henry Ford Health Customer Service Policy
  • Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. May require local and out of state travel.
