The Henry Ford Health System, located in southeast Michigan, seeks a dynamic and innovative leader to fill the role of Chair for the Department of Women’s Health Services. Henry Ford Women’s Health Services is a leader and innovator in comprehensive care and education in the fields of general obstetrics and gynecology as well as the various subspecialties including uro-gynecology, gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric/adolescent gynecology and preventive services.  Henry Ford Women’s Health Services is poised to build on its tradition of excellence as the health system continues to expand and evolve in its clinical, teaching and research missions in an era of transformation from volume to value-based health care, population health management, and personalized medicine.

The Chair is a member of the Henry Ford Medical Group, one of nation’s largest and most experienced group practices, with more than 1,200 physicians and researchers in more than 40 specialties.  The Chair will have ultimate responsibility for the clinical, educational, research, and fiscal oversight of the department in order to achieve personal and institutional success.  The department consists of 40 physicians, 21 midwives, 3 nurse practitioners serving patients at 5 hospitals and 14 medical centers.  The academic mission includes Wayne State University medical students, 16 residents, and 3 fellowship programs. 

The successful candidate will be board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, highly regarded in their organization and nationally as effective leader and outstanding clinician. The candidate will also have solid operating and business management experience, preferably within an integrated health system. He or she will have strong communication skills with the ability to form cohesive teams and solid relationships inside and outside departments and organizations.

The ideal candidate:
  • Will be a physician licensable in the state of Michigan with current certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology;
  • Have a reputation as an outstanding, highly respected clinician with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Highly regarded nationally within the Women’s Health Services community with an accomplished record of research and scholarship;
  • Demonstrated success managing a budget;
  • Prior operational experience leading groups of physicians, researchers and health care staff;
  • Broad and deep experience within an academic health system or other environment where patient care, academic research and educational training are pursued with rigor;
  • Ideally worked in an integrated health system and demonstrated the ability to build relationships and work effectively with other clinical departments and with community physicians and surgeons, particularly in the development and management of a regional system of women’s health services;
  • An understanding of the ethics and cross-disciplinary nature of medical group practice;
  • Committed to the mission of medical education and particularly graduate medical education; dedicated to maintaining a positive culture and environment for residents with an understanding of the evolving trends in graduate medical education, including the ACGME’s Next Accreditation System and milestone development and implementation;
  • Record of achievement in research as a funded researcher and a developer of a successful research program involving others, ideally including translational and outcomes research;
  • An understanding of the transformation occurring in health care delivery and financing from volume-based to value-based reimbursement and of the role of women’s health services in that transition to population-based health care; and
  • A commitment to continuously improving the quality of care delivery, including the level of customer service to patients and to referring physicians.
  • Philanthropic experience a plus;
