Operations will direct and foster an environment of repeatable processes, best practice technology application, world class performance and metrics, a continuous improvement plan, exceptional customer service and development of a strong team. The VP will provide direction and oversight for strategic distribution planning, site-based supply chain operation modeling, and continuous improvement in order to support Henry Ford’s current goals as well as favorably positioning Henry Ford for future opportunities.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Creates rolling multi-year distribution strategy that supports Henry Ford’s overall supply chain objectives and enhances opportunities for partnership, commercial ventures and enhanced strategic partnerships, including the implementation of Henry Ford’s CSC initiative.
  • Oversees the execution of fulfillment operations, including receiving, order picking, order inspection, order packing, shipping, returns, inventory control, quality assurance, operational flow, reporting, training, material handling equipment utilization, administration, and supplies and budget control.
  • Directs the development and execution of processes related to driving maximum value through supply chain functions of, continuous improvement, site operations, and distribution. Responsible for optimizing total delivered cost and service levels for supplies and services, while standardizing all aspects of the Supply Chain field operations and distribution.
  • Serves as executive lead of contract compliance functions, and as a member of Henry Ford’s supply chain leadership team responsible for the overall supply cost and service level effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction of all non-labor expenses.  Develop and implement inventory management strategies designed to reduce costs, improve product and service quality and expedite delivery
  • Implement purchasing best practices with respect to demand planning and inventory control.  Optimize use of technology to streamline inventory management processes.
  • Ensures all activities and actions are in alignment with the vision and clear direction of Henry Ford’s supply chain leadership team. Builds and flexes distribution strategies to support future opportunities.
  • Serves as executive sponsor for supply initiatives at each site and regional markets. Instills confidence with the related executive teams that supply chain has the appropriate action plans and processes to achieve the supply cost objectives.
  • Ensures Directors of Supply Chain Operations understand the detailed impact of supply related decisions on the business at each site and market.
  • Serves as the executive sponsor for the management of supply chain integration initiatives.
  • Ensures physicians, site leadership, and staff are properly educated and trained to maximize the utilization of resources, minimize distribution costs.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
  • Develops, implements, and guides a Value Analysis Program to promote product standardization, investigates new products or services and provides cost effective sources for supplies, services and equipment. Monitors and reports on program results and recommendations.
  • Provides strategic thinking and tactical execution in collaboration with colleagues to establish world-class (or leading practice) supply chain.
  • Assures that department operations adhere to guidelines per State of Michigan, JCAHO, HFAP and any other applicable agencies.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Supply Chain or related field, required. Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance or Supply Chain, preferred. Certifications in one or more process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, RPR), preferred.  
  • 7-10 years of experience in distribution services, supply chain, or procurement, required. Includes 5-7 years of management experience in distribution services, procurement, or supply chain with a minimum of 3 years leading and designing advanced distribution models across large and complex organizations. Experience working in supply chain management in a health system is highly desired.  Extensive knowledge in developing system-wide/organizational strategies, processes and programs which support a service-focused, cost-effective, centralized model.
  • Skills in designing, administering and evaluating programs/practices to maximize efficiency. Excellent analytical, quantitative and qualitative skills to facilitate effective decision-making.   In-depth knowledge of inventory management and related accounting processes.   Ability to develop strategic/tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large healthcare system.   Proven ability to develop sound proposals and successfully implement project plans. Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and to address difficult and issues. Ability to create a superior service organization that will ensure quality and commitment to user satisfaction. Ability to identify and solve problems creatively, to work within deadlines with a high attention to detail and to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
