GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Clinical Services & Planned Giving, the Senior Development Officer, Planned Gifts is responsible for developing and supervising the planned giving program for the system, as well as integrating and coordinating it with major and principal gifts efforts benefiting HFHS.  The Senior Development Officer, Planned Gifts works closely with Senior Philanthropy Staff, major gift team members, volunteers and donor advisors to identify prospects and develop solicitation strategies for planned gifts.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and organizes programs and activities necessary to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gift prospects for all levels of giving, and integrating with campaign and other major gift solicitations.
  • Provides program leadership and vision for planned giving program and works as part of a team with philanthropy staff to develop planned gift promotional and solicitation strategies benefiting specific System initiatives.  Under the supervision of the Senior Director, Clinical Services & Planned Giving, the Senior Development Officer-Planned Giving works closely with key volunteers, system leadership, and medical group leadership to identify prospects and move the solicitation and gift development process to conclusion. 
  • Works to establish policies regarding gift processing, gift acceptance, and other policies and processes needed to strengthen the foundation of the program and grow it as part of a significant capital campaign.
  • Develops and implements strategies to build on-going processes for identification of planned gift prospects at all levels of giving and provide gift development and technical support required to close and steward such gifts.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing planned giving communication in collaboration with the Development Communications leadership.  Designs engagement and cultivation plans for the various HFHS donor prospect constituencies. These fundraising plans include utilizing prospect research available and planning related donor cultivation activities, direct mail activities, newsletters, brochures, web site enhancement, training and supporting major gift team planned gift activities, planned giving proposal preparation, and planned gift administration and stewardship- all aimed at addressing various system, facility and department needs.
  • Leverages existing relationships with donors and prospects and creates new relationships resulting in large planned giving support and blended gifts.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of charitable estate and financial planning and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree from four-year college in related field.  An advanced degree or certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 (seven) or more years of experience developing and growing a planned giving program into maturity is preferred with in depth knowledge of planned giving policies, processes, giving vehicles, marketing strategies, and collegial collaboration with the major gift team.
