General Pediatrician- Contingent
Henry Ford St. John Children’s Hospital is seeking a PRN/Contingent General Pediatrician to provide flexible, as-needed clinical coverage across outpatient and newborn care settings. The St. John Children’s Hospital is located on the Henry Ford St. John Hospital and Medical Center campus in Detroit, MI.
This is a non-benefited, contingent position designed to support clinical services during periods of increased need, including vacation coverage, surge staffing, and weekday or weekend gaps in the schedule.
Contingent Pediatricians may be scheduled to provide:

Outpatient direct patient care in a busy, well-established private general pediatrics office, managing the full spectrum of pediatric well visits, sick visits, and follow-up care.

Outpatient care in a busy, well-established resident teaching clinic, managing the full scope of general pediatric conditions, well child care, and common procedures.

Supervisory care in the Special Care Nursery, overseeing resident physicians and/or neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) in the management of late preterm and term newborns with moderate medical needs.

Supervisory care in the Newborn nursery overseeing resident physicians as needed, depending on experience and interest.
Outpatient clinic hours are typically Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm. Special Care Nursery and Newborn Nursery rounding generally occurs during morning hours and may include weekend or holiday coverage based on departmental need and mutual availability.
This is an employed contingent position within the Henry Ford Medical Group. While not eligible for benefits, the role offers flexibility, competitive hourly compensation, and the opportunity to provide high-quality pediatric care within both private practice and academic-affiliated nursery settings.
- Completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency Program.
- Board eligible or board certified in General Pediatrics.
- Previous experience in outpatient pediatrics and/or newborn care is preferred.
- Comfort with supervising pediatric residents and NNPs is highly desirable.
