Division Head - Infectious Disease
Position Summary:
Henry Ford Health, a leading academic health system, is seeking an accomplished and dynamic physician-leader to serve as the Division Head of Infectious Disease. This individual will oversee clinical, research, and educational programs within the Division, ensuring excellence in patient care, education, research and faculty development. The successful candidate will have a track-record or experience and or funding in translational or clinical research. The Division Head will work collaboratively with the department chair and other institutional leaders to expand the Division’s impact in infectious disease prevention, treatment, education, and research while mentoring faculty and trainees in a supportive academic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration
· Provide visionary leadership for the Division of Infectious Disease, aligning with the health system’s mission and strategic goals.
· Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty and staff to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and inclusivity.
· Manage Division operations, including budget oversight, resource allocation, and program development.
· Advocate for the Division within the health system, promoting institutional support for infectious disease initiatives and external collaboration for research on a national scale.
· Promote and develop top decile in all aspects of ICP.
Clinical Excellence
· Oversee and enhance high-quality patient care across inpatient and outpatient infectious disease services.
· Develop and implement innovative models of care, including antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and emerging pathogen preparedness.
· Collaborate with other divisions and departments to ensure integrated, multidisciplinary care for complex infectious disease cases.
Research & Innovation
· Advance the Division’s research portfolio, fostering investigator-initiated, industry-sponsored, state, foundation, and federally funded research.
· Support faculty in securing grant funding and conducting groundbreaking studies in infectious disease across multiple domains including prevention, treatment, and epidemiology.
· Promote clinical and translational research and collaboration between bench scientists and clinicians.
Education & Mentorship
· Oversee infectious disease fellowship and residency/medical student training in infectious diseases.
· Foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional development for faculty, trainees, and medical students.
· Lead efforts to integrate infectious disease education into the broader curriculum of GME/UGME.
Institutional & Community Engagement
· Serve as a system-wide expert on infectious disease policies, outbreak response, and public health initiatives.
· Engage in community outreach and partnerships to improve public health and infectious disease awareness.
· Represent the Division in national and international organizations, enhancing its reputation and influence.
Qualifications:
· MD with board certification in Infectious Disease.
· Eligibility for medical licensure in Michigan.
· Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in an academic or large healthcare setting.
· Strong track record of clinical excellence, research accomplishments, and educational leadership.
· Proven ability to foster a culture of teamwork, mentorship, and academic productivity.
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare and education.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience securing and managing extramural research funding.
· National recognition in the field of infectious diseases.
· Experience in clinical trials, healthcare epidemiology, antibiotic resistance, antimicrobial stewardship, mycology or virology.
