Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, this position is a key role within the Financial Planning & Analysis team with primary responsibilities related to validation of internal initiatives aimed at reducing cost per unit and growing the business.  Interfaces with internal teams to identify financial opportunities, estimate financial impact and track actual results directly related to team initiatives.  Provide overall budget, forecast and actual support for these internal teams.  Work with minimal supervision, performing / managing work of a generally complex nature aimed at assisting decision making and/or improving the financial performance of Henry Ford Health System. 



  • Works independently to validate value related to internal initiatives to reduce cost and grow the business.
  • Assume financial leadership role for internal teams and evaluate the financial impact of internal initiatives and how those initiatives are reflected in actual results as well as impacts to be included in financial forecasts, budgets and long-range planning.

  • Prepare in-depth costs and profitability analysis as needed to facilitate sound business decisions.

  • Assist in identifying areas of opportunity and risks to reduce cost per unit across the system and within specific segments of the business through analysis of key business drivers, financial results and results of benchmarking information.

  • Interface with various departments, senior management and individuals. 

  • Support special requests for financial data and analyses and for information on current and proposed projects and programs.

  • Other projects / analysis as requested.

  • Provide effective, concise, and meaningful reporting to various audiences, including leadership, on a regular basis, both via writing and verbal presentations.

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting

  • 5+ years progressive experience, strong analytical capabilities, and proficiency in financial analysis in a Financial Planning & Analysis environment

  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare finance

Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications)

  • MBA

  • Strong initiative to improve and make processes smoother for all involved while maintaining objectives.

  • 5+ years of experience of hospital operational finance

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-moving, dynamic team environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of budget/planning software (Kaufman Hall Axiom preferred), benchmarking systems (iVantage preferred) and proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including presentation of complex topics to both financial and non-financial leadership.
