This position is integral to the administration of a continuous and proactive Business Integrity/Compliance Program across all operations of the Henry Ford Health System. This position serves as the key front line legal resource for all issues working directly with the Chief Integrity Officer, teaming with the Market Chief Compliance Officers and in some cases serving as the Service line Compliance Lead, ensuring that HFHS maintains an effective compliance program, and structure. A key factor for the individual to be successful and highly effective is the strength of his/her deep knowledge and experience in healthcare regulatory compliance and engagement skills. The CCLO collaborates with the compliance team, legal department and organizational leaders to assess healthcare system operations against regulatory standards and requirements and assists with the implementation of changes and improvements when compliance in those operations is not optimal or is breached. Helps to develop strategies and processes to prevent fraud and abuse, and enhance operations through reporting, enforcement, monitoring, auditing, investigation, and remediation and collaborates on review and development of all policies and procedures related to the Compliance program. This position promotes a culture of integrity and ensures operational alignment with the mission and values of HFHS. Assists the Chief Integrity Officer by providing counsel and direction on compliance legal and program matters including providing input to the annual risk based Compliance Audit Work plan for assigned markets and service lines. The CCLO provides regular updates on compliance activities and issues to the CCOs and the Vice President of Business Integrity/Chief Integrity Officer (VPBI/CIO).This position has a reporting relationship and accountability to the HFHS VPBI/CIO and an ongoing working relationship with the CCOs as well as the Office of General Counsel also an integral element of ensuring independence and alignment with Federal guidelines for best in class practice. The CCLO will provide support in the overall BI work plan and will be able to draw from the entire BI shared services team as needed as well as utilize resources from the multiple working teams they are responsible to lead or participate in. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Juris Doctor Degree required. Admitted to practice law by the bar of at least one state and/or the District of Columbia. 10+ years of litigation/transactional legal experience as in-house counsel or with a law firm. 10+ years of experience in electronic discovery related work. Demonstrated experience in a law firm specifically in the healthcare compliance practice and/or in-house corporate compliance/law department required. Demonstrated ability to build, develop a healthcare compliance program. Prior experience negotiating complex settlements. Demonstrated experience in legal project management. Strong knowledge of litigation and corporate transaction practices. Ability to identify potential legal issues. Strong interpersonal, writing and verbal communications skills. Ability to interact with all levels of management. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and able to work independently and as a part of a team to prioritize responsibilities, take initiative and self-motivate/self-manage work and time. Sound knowledge of electronic discovery based on direct involvement in the planning and/or successful use of eDiscovery software and services. Professional level knowledge and a working understanding of the complex combination of healthcare legal and regulatory requirements and internal control systems and procedures. A working knowledge of documentation, coding, and billing requirements for governmental payors in all applicable healthcare business lines is required. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Certification in Healthcare Compliance is required.
