The Director Physician Recruitment is a strategic recruiting leader and a consultative partner who demonstrates and executes clinical recruiting strategies to engage talent, build relationships with passive prospective candidates to attract high performing talent to Henry Ford Health. The director will have a detailed understanding of recruitment and business strategy that includes forging strong relationships with the clinical and business leadership to both understand position requirements, core values, corporate culture alignment and provide necessary market data to the leadership team relative to executing a recruiting strategy. 

 

The Director Physician Recruitment will lead a team of clinical recruiters and will provide management oversight and guidance on executing the recruiting process and managing expectations from launch of a search through offer and acceptance. The director will manage a small number of high-profile Physician focused searches and play an active role in the recruiting process while mentoring team members for future high-profile searches.

 

The Director should be passionate about providing the highest level of service to the Physician community focused on assisting the team in hiring highly talented and qualified individuals who align well within our organization. The Director will train, mentor and motivate the recruiting staff leveraging excellent collaboration and communication skills. This individual will be a leader providing guidance and direction to the team with the goal of representing the interests of the Henry Ford Health Physician organization and the candidates we are fortunate enough to engage with.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Managing the physician and advanced practice provider (APP) recruitment team (up to 10 professionals) with an emphasis on developing strong partnerships with HFH leadership and employees to ultimately execute a high-quality recruiting process.
  • Develop, motivate and educate the team on highly effective candidate engagement and sourcing strategies necessary to attract top talent for HFH.
  • Work closely with recruiting team members to establish a more robust candidate screening process focused on engaging passive talent, understanding career motivators, key deliverables and responsibilities, scope and scale of the candidates impact and generally developing long-term relationships whether for a direct current need, networking opportunities or future potential physicians, executive support and APP candidates.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with staff focused on team motivation, reviewing recruiting processes and discussing challenges with a solution centric mindset.
  • Responsible for the marketing strategies, development and maintenance of budget, business and marketing plans related to physician and APP hiring. 
  • Oversee training and orientation process of new physicians, executive support, APP and physician and APP leadership regarding company polices and procedures.  Assure Joint Commission (Executive Board) new hire orientation compliance. Assure annual review and maintenance of Physician On-Line Policy Manual.
  • Work closely with HFH Physician and HR leadership to establish productive relationships with emphasis on continually improving the recruiting process from requirements gathering through offer and acceptance for physicians, physician leaders and APP.
  • Provide consistent follow up with hiring physicians and APP leaders to ensure that expectations are being established, needs are being met and that the team is executing a high-quality recruiting process. This is a 2-way street, your role is to effectively communicate challenges, barriers and to work with the leaders and HR team to provide solutions re: difficult to attract skill sets, interview process bottlenecks and to provide a clear communication plan.
  • Oversee advertising/posting of physician/APP hiring needs with attention to detail and ensuring that descriptions accurately describe the sought-after responsibilities, skills and behaviors surrounding a particular opportunity.
  • Manage and maintain recruitment efforts for Physician and APP including working to define vacancies, developing job descriptions, directing the posting process, defining the search strategy, candidate screening process, setting itineraries, collecting interview evaluations, processing offers and managing other recruiting focused activities around immigration and relocation as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of physicians not selected for employment.  Assure compliance with AA/EEO requirements and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Maintain statistics to support physician, physician leader and APP recruitment functions, funding and staff. 
  • Negotiate recruitment contracts, as needed, for housing, moving companies, hotel, transportation, external recruitment firms, etc. with assistance of legal counsel. 
  • Assist with physician/APP provider disciplinary and severance issues as required. 
  • This role requires strong relationship building skills and the use and exercise of independent judgment.

Education/Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in full-cycle Physician recruitment or Executive recruitment/sourcing for a medium-large multi-site organization required
  • 5-7 years of demonstrated strong and engaging leadership experience. (Leadership experience can be proven through informal leadership roles)
  • 3rd Party OR Executive Search Firm experience preferred but not required
