The Director, Business Development - International Patient Services is responsible for the international business development activities as it relates to government entities both nationally and internationally.  Will conduct outreach to understand the needs of international customers and to increase physician relations, both internal and external.  Will establish relationships with decision makers to obtain medical tourist from government and private entities.  Will provide direct assistance and support to the entire international program management group, with a focus on marketing and business development for medical tourism.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand the history, medical advancements and achievements made at Henry Ford Health (HFH), using this knowledge to promote HFH as a world class destination for high quality, patient-centered care.
  • Responsible for business development activities that increase government sponsored medical tourist to HFH.
  • Responsible for marketing strategies that increase medical tourist volumes to HFH.
  • Conduct in-person visits to US embassies and to healthcare leaders and decision makers abroad to establish and maintain relationships that result in medical tourist patients to HFH for care.
  • Influence relationships to choose HFH as provider of healthcare services.
  • Responsible for marketing strategies that promote the HFH brand internationally.
  • Responsible for leading the development of mechanisms involved in business development that include in-country activities, media campaigns, physician relationship development, conference and/or health event attendance/sponsorship and speaking engagement at international conferences. Development of a physician ambassador program?
  • Responsible for the development and management oversight of all internal and external statistical reporting and data elements involving patient volume, demographics, services utilized, interactions, encounters, revenue, cost, profitability and customer and patient satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement a software data base for data collection, warehousing, reporting and activities.
  • Development of and management of marketing database.
  • Development and management of internal and external client/customer (patients, physicians, payors and other third-party) satisfaction surveys.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve client/customer satisfactions scores.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor all international contracts and agreements.  Assure that all international contracts are processed accurately and promptly and conform to appropriate legal and procedural guidelines.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of carve-out contracts with international payors responsible for contract development, management oversight and execution of terms.
  • Develops and maintains close relationship with departments and physicians as well as their office staff to coordinate, manage and follow through on issues related to patient care, outcomes, cost, policy changes and other matters related to International Patient Services.  Including marketing and statistical reporting.
  • Prepare and adhere to budget related to business development activities.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to management on activities, accomplishments and outcomes related to work.
  • Work with and manage visiting physicians.
  • Responsible as a subject matter expert SME with personal professional development to maintain knowledge of trends in international healthcare, marketing, management, and public relations.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Health Care or relevant field. Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience required preferably in a healthcare setting resulting in; improved operational efficiencies, patient centered care/process and/or staff productivity.

 

 

EXPEREINCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 5 years healthcare experience.  Healthcare provider experience preferred. International healthcare experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated past success in business development.
  • Experience with physician relations and healthcare operations.
  • Experience in healthcare business development activities, or prior business development experience.
  • Experience with contract negotiations and healthcare pricing.
  • A proven track record as an effective and communitive leader of a healthcare organization
  • Able to apply problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills. 

 

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Detailed understanding of the complexities of healthcare delivery systems and a strong understanding of international healthcare and the complexities in between.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a proven record of working effectively in a matrix environment with multiple customers.
  • Strategic selling skills and relationship development skills.
  • Significant drive for results with a skill to understand the requirements of those we serve.
  • Strong listening skills and effective oral and written communication. Ability to listen and understand unique requirements and solution to positive results.
  • Must be able and interested in travelling domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time and holds a valid US passport
  • Must be proficient in the Arabic language, spoken and written.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require a good deal of walking or standing; may require a good deal of sitting.
  • Travel on international flights without issue
