GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Administrator for Clinical Performance Support, coordinates and monitors the day-to-day activities and general functions of the Clinical Documentation Program and the CDIP nurses. Identifies factors influencing the complexity of the patient's diagnosis and treatment plan; works collaboratively with physicians to improve the quality of clinical record documentation. Assists care providers to enhance clinical data integrity. Provides direction and maintains open communication. Coordinates workloads, oversees in-service training, established procedures and assists Administrator with the evaluation of staff performance. Assists with oversight of all activities related to the Clinical Documentation Program.


 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and controls the activities within the Clinical Documentation Program ensuring that adequate service levels are met and proper procedures are being followed.
  • Assists with review of clinical documentation of new admissions including emergency room admissions within 48 hours of admission; works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and ancillary providers to accurately represent through paper documentation the patient’s signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and response to treatment. Identifies documentation opportunities.
  • Maintains knowledge of new and existing coding rules and regulations, and applicable documentation guidelines. Communicates new coding and documentation rules/regulations to staff.
  • Provides training to new Clinical Documentation Specialists as well as coordinates ongoing in-service educational sessions for staff and physicians as it relates to the Clinical Documentation Program.
  • Creates and maintains documentation and coding presentations, tip sheets, newsletters, and other educational material, as identified which adhere to departmental quality and branding standards. 
  • Develops, provides, and maintains new Provider(s) and Resident(s) orientation programs.

 


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, Bachelors degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of RN experience in acute care setting required.
  • Supervisory experience as well as Case Management experience preferred.


CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Current License to practice professional Nursing in State of Michigan.
