Coor- Volunteer Services- Full Time- Detroit
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in the day-to-day management and delivery of Volunteer Services, ensuring smooth, efficient, and high-quality operations across hospital areas based on location, including lobby, gift shop, and switchboard. This position drives volunteer engagement, maintains compliance, and supports staff and departmental goals, serving as a central resource for volunteers, patients, staff, and the community.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Volunteer Engagement & Retention: Proactively recruits, motivates, and retains highly capable volunteers to ensure departmental needs are met and service excellence is consistently delivered.
2. Orientation & Role Assignment: Conducts volunteer orientations, interviews, and role placements, strategically aligning volunteer skills and interests with operational requirements.
3. Compliance Oversight: Ensures all volunteers meet and maintain required regulatory, safety, and credentialing standards, including immunizations, background checks, and mandatory trainings.
4. Operational Coordination: Maintains daily volunteer schedules, tracks hours and assignments, and coordinates staffing to optimize operational efficiency across all areas.
5. Data Management & Reporting: Maintains accurate volunteer records in electronic systems, generates reports and metrics to inform departmental planning, and supports compliance documentation.
6. Policy & Procedure Compliance: Ensures volunteers and pet therapy animals adhere to hospital policies, safety, infection control, and quality standards; maintains current procedure documentation.
7. Community & Program Support: Assists with community outreach, donation drives, special events, and volunteer recognition initiatives, enhancing the organization’s community presence.
8. Volunteer Support & Development: Serves as the primary resource for volunteers, addressing questions, providing guidance, and facilitating ongoing education and annual evaluations.
9. Customer Service Excellence: Responds promptly and professionally to inquiries from volunteers, staff, patients, and visitors, consistently providing high-quality service and support.
10.Administrative & Financial Support: Coordinates meetings, volunteer activities, and departmental events; supports budget monitoring, supply management, and fundraising logistics.
11.Professional Growth: Participates in training, in-services, and hospital programs to enhance role effectiveness, knowledge, and skills.
12.Special Projects: Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental objectives and organizational priorities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in volunteer coordination, administrative support, or related operational role.
• Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with Vsys Anywhere preferred.
