Communications Manager | Genesys Hospital | Grand Blanc, MI
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Committed to market growth, community engagement, and building a well-informed, highly-engaged workforce, the Manager, Public Relations & Communications is responsible for developing and implementing public relations and communications strategies and plans to support hospital campuses, medical centers and other regionally based services. Serving as the hospital's primary Public Information Officer (PIO), the manager assists with crisis communications and emergency management alongside key regional or market based clinical, operational and administrative leaders; and partners with other communications leaders to coordinate and align messaging and response plans. The manager provides key counsel and support for local employee engagement strategies and partners with colleagues across the system to integrate approaches to special events and recognitions. Additionally, the manager will support regional growth strategies, outreach efforts for the promotion of new physicians and facilities, earned & paid community media, and support market-based community relations alongside key partners across the campuses, market and health system.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as hospital Public Information Officer (PIO), supporting local Incident Command teams, assisting with site-based crisis communications, and participating in the health system’s PIO team. May need to serve on-call, after hours and weekends during active emergency management situations.
- Works closely with system communications to create, integrate and align team member, physician and nursing, and other employee communications across sites.
- Supports campus-wide employee engagement and recognition events.
- Develops content to support market and hospital-based communications and PR including social media, web, intranet and other digital content, internal communications.
- Oversees and supports the creation and maintenance of patient communications, in close collaboration with communications, marketing and experience teams.
- Creates and manages executive communications for market and hospital-based leadership.
- Manages earned and paid community media strategy for key geographical service areas in partnership with marketing and market leadership.
- Executes innovative and creative public relations and communications strategies to promote new physicians and facilities across her/his market, in close collaboration with marketing colleagues.
- Manages local partner and community outreach engagement activities in close collaboration with Development, Government Affairs, market and site-based leaders.
- Works with site-based and market leaders to create proactive, focused PR & Communications plans.
- Partners with Brand and Creative Services and System Communications teams to maintain consistent and integrated standards for use of the Henry Ford Health brand for communications.
- Supervise PR & Communications team members as appropriate – approving plans for execution and impact, working with team members to develop writing and strategic storytelling skills, and fostering career development.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or a related field, required.
- Seven (7) or more years experience in public relations, with increasing responsibility.
- Exceptional oral, written and digital communication skills.
- Must have excellent people skills works extremely well with a broad cross-section of leaders.
- Must be a critical thinker, able to distill and communication complex medical and other concepts across broad audiences.
- Must be guided by a passion for storytelling, natural curiosity and a collaborative client partner orientation.
- Able to manage multiple projects accounts and complex issues with an orientation to innovation, creativity and attention to detail and accuracy.
