GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Employee Health and Safety this role is responsible for the oversight of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program across Henry Ford Health including the following functions:
  • Ensuring alignment of all Workplace Violence Prevention initiatives across all Markets to System goals and objectives by leading system strategic/action planning and coordinating the continued expansion and implementation of existing Workplace Violence Prevention initiatives and goals. In conjunction with the Director of Employee Health and Safety, sets priorities for the HFH yearly and long-term, determines yearly goals for WPV Prevention, and facilitates communication around and coordination of projects to help complete goals across the HFH.
  • Participates in the Workplace Violence Governance council and the respective sub-committees. Provides data and analysis of current WPV trends within the organization.
  • Partners with other healthcare organizations to benchmark and understand best practices with the WPV space.
  • Seeks out external funding such as grants or donations for WPV initiatives.
  • Partner with other internal and external teams for practical exercises related to WPV prevention such as gap assessments and active shooter training. 

Staff Training and Communication
Increase awareness of Workplace Violence Prevention Initiatives by communicating and collaborating with Leaders. Promote the dissemination of information from Leadership to staff pertaining to WPV event response, EHR Flag/RL documentation, available employee resources, de-escalation training, and Leadership Commitment to all HFHS Employees in reference to WPV Prevention. Lead strategic plan to create intranet Department on OneHenry for Workplace Violence Prevention as a central source for WPV related information.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Employee Health Safety, sets a strategic vision for the system, and is responsible for the continual improvement of the WPV Prevention Program across HFH.
  • Direct the functioning of Business Unit and System Level Workplace Violence Flag Review Committees to ensure compliance with OSHA/TJC standards and HFHS Policy standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Workplace Violence Prevention Initiatives across Henry Ford Health System.
  • Oversee all WPV Flagging Committees and WPV committees throughout system.
  • Responsible for collaborating with leaders in departments across the Regional Market and System including Security Services, Employee Safety,
  • Behavioral Health, Nursing, Office of Clinical Quality & Safety, Risk Management & Patient Safety to stay apprised of integration and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintenance of WPV Flagging Committees and facilitate the development of new WPV Flagging Committees as necessary to ensure proper Market coverage of Epic banner monitoring and maintenance. Responsible for keeping all business units following same methodology for placing / removing WPV flags.
  • Serve as the key education and chart review resource, who develops and maintains standards for chart review to identify triggers, effective interventions, types of violence exhibited, and other information of note.
  • Create and maintain a database for Electronic Health Record Workplace Violence Chart Flag review.
  • Monitor documentation standard used for WPV Chart Advisories. Develop and oversee documentation standard to be used for all flag reviews.
  • Review WPV flags with WPV Flagging Committee at each Business unit and ensure that WPV Flagging Committees have documented their determinations to escalate to Chart Advisory, remain at Banner, or remove all notification.
  • Monitor and promote the filing of RLs for all WPV flags for tracking.
  • Ensure that all WPV related RLs have been reviewed to validate that a flag has been placed for committee review.
  • Develop a protocol to communicate WPV flag determinations to the employee that the placed flag.
  • Looks for new process improvement opportunities for WPV Prevention.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • BA/BS in Public Safety, Occupational Safety
  • Clinical experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrate strong project management and strategic thinking skills. Be self-directed, innovative, and organized.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, initiative, and willingness to learn and create new approaches.
  • Microsoft Office preferred.
