Vice President - Pharmacy Innovation & Process Excellence
Reporting to the Chief Pharmacy Officer, the VP-Pharmacy Operational Effectiveness & Innovation is responsible for driving operational excellence across the High Value Pharmacy Enterprise (HVPE) within Henry Ford Health. This VP provides strategic and tactical leadership for process improvement, innovation, and project management initiatives that advance HVPE performance, efficiency, and alignment with organizational priorities.
The VP partners with executive and operational leaders across pharmacy and the broader health system to identify, develop, and implement high-impact pharmacy programs and services. This role establishes governance structures, prioritizes enterprise initiatives, and ensures measurable outcomes through defined key performance indicators (KPIs). The VP leads the integration and alignment of HVPE services with the Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health and other organizational partners, and champions a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and data-driven decision-making across the HVPE.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Effectiveness and Process Excellence
Leads enterprise-wide operational effectiveness efforts within the HVPE, driving sustainable improvements in quality, efficiency, and service delivery.
Champions process excellence by identifying, designing, and implementing process improvement initiatives across pharmacy operations, including HVPE Process Order Delivery (HPOD) workflows.
Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and adaptive innovation across the HVPE, ensuring programs are responsive to evolving customer and organizational needs.
Develops and trains pharmacy team members on process improvement methodologies and project management principles to build organizational capability.
Develops and maintains resources, tools, and frameworks for project management that can be leveraged across the HVPE.
340B Program and Operations
Provides operational oversight and strategic direction for the 340B drug discount program, ensuring program integrity, compliance, and optimization of drug cost-savings across eligible entities.
Collaborates with pharmacy, finance, contracting, and compliance stakeholders to identify 340B program growth opportunities and mitigate risks.
Pharmacy IT Operations, Strategic Vendor Partnership, and Analytics
Oversees pharmacy information technology operations, ensuring systems are optimized, integrated, and aligned with clinical and operational priorities of the HVPE.
Develops and manages strategic IT vendor partnerships, serving as a key pharmacy liaison for technology assessment, procurement, implementation, and performance evaluation.
Works closely with organizational data and analytics resources to design, develop, and sustain pharmacy analytics infrastructure that supports evidence-based decision-making and performance monitoring.
Leverages data insights to identify trends, measure initiative success, and develop actionable recommendations for HVPE leadership.
Major Initiatives, Governance, and Strategic Alignment
Leads the alignment of HVPE strategies and services with the Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health, identifying and executing integration opportunities that maximize pharmacy value across payer and health system operations.
Drives optimization of HVPE-level service integration, ensuring coordinated and seamless delivery of pharmacy services across business units and care settings.
Establishes governance structures and prioritization frameworks for HVPE initiatives, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and in alignment with organizational strategy.
Defines and ensures establishment of pre- and post-implementation KPIs for all major HVPE initiatives; leads measurement and reporting of initiative success to executive stakeholders.
Partners with stakeholders and executive leaders across the health system to identify and implement HVPE services that align with and advance organizational priorities and strategic initiatives.
Ensures pharmacy innovation initiatives are evaluated against and aligned with HVPE strategy, organizational goals, and available resources prior to advancement.
Facilitates a matrix approach in the development and execution of services across clinical, operational, and administrative teams; participates effectively on committees, work groups, and leadership teams within the health system.
Effectively represents Henry Ford Health and the HVPE when communicating with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including suppliers, technology partners, regulatory agencies, and healthcare providers.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described above.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) or Master of Science degree in Hospital Pharmacy with equivalent curriculum required.
Advaned degree in health care administration, business administration, or a related field required (e.g., MBA, MHSA, MPH).
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in health system pharmacy practice, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
Documented experience in operational effectiveness, process improvement, and project management within a complex health system or pharmacy enterprise.
Experience with 340B program management, pharmacy IT systems, and analytics platforms strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience partnering with IT and technology vendors in a strategic capacity.
Exceptional business acumen with demonstrated ability to develop, execute, and monitor strategic plans.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Current Michigan Licensure as a registered pharmacist required.
