Team Lead RN-OR Special Service (Neuro Service Line) - Full Time - Days
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Team Lead RN – Operating Room coordinates activities of staff in the operating room and provides oversight for front line staff in collaboration with O.R. leadership. Serves as liaison between surgeon, operating room staff, and management. Acts as resource for questions or issues related to procedures or surgeon preference. Coordinates day-to-day operational needs by setting priorities, planning for and addressing staffing needs, and coordinating work across other teams as needed. Provides guidance, coaching, and feedback to team members and provides input in employment decisions, performance issues and performance reviews. May serve in various clinical nursing roles (i.e., direct care nurse, charge nurse, etc.).
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Directs and motivates specialty team(s) RNs, Surgical Technologists; Surgical Assistants; and Perioperative Assistants
2. Advises daily room assignments appropriate to skill level of specialty service team members
3. Acts as primary liaison to surgeons within the service; communicates service needs to leadership; and promotes a ‘can-do’ customer service approach to medical staff
4. Develops and implements action plans to develop skill of team members. Collaborates with O.R. Educator and specialty team members regarding orientation, training, cross-training, and evaluation of new and tenured staff
5. Assists with on time case starts and facilitates room turnover and case setup. Collaborates with specialty service team to ensure all necessary equipment, instruments trays, and supplies are available for cases
6. Assumes primary accountability for the development and maintenance of specialty service preference cards
7. Promotes case cost effectiveness through streamlined preference cards/instrument sets (tray content changes) and accurate/minimal supply inventory (inventory par levels/locator systems)
8. Collaborates with specialty lead surgical processing staff to ensure streamlined/optimized specialty instrument tray availability
9. Collaborates with supply chain staff to ensure accurate supply inventory availability/par levels/locator systems
10.Supports and enforces infection control policies and regulatory requirements
11.Identifies and prioritizes capital and non-capital equipment, instrumentation, and supply needs
12.Participates in hospital safety programs and quality improvement processes
13.Informs Clinical Manager/Assistant Clinical Manager of specialty service activities and issues
14.Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Facilitates staff understanding of behaviors that project a professional image
15.Communicates effectively with medical staff, nursing staff, and support staff
16.Assists with staff in Operating Room as needed
17.Conducts daily team huddles
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. BSN Preferred.
• Two to three (2-3) years of relevant acute care nursing experience required.
• A member of AORN organization preferred.
• Actively participates in the O.R. Shared Governance Council or Committee.
- Must have experience in the OR in Neuro.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
• Current licensure by the State of Michigan as a registered nurse required.
• ACLS preferred. • Health care provider certification (BCLS) required.
