*Supervisor- Health Information Mangement/Full Time/Hybrid
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient management, accuracy, and security of patient data within the HIM department. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of AHIMA guidelines and HIPAA regulations. The HIM Supervisor leads a team of HIM professionals and collaborates with various departments to uphold the integrity of the medical record.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee and manage the daily operations of the HIM department, including the supervision of staff, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work
environment.
2. Ensure accurate and timely documentation completion, release, retrieval and availability of patient health records. Monitor data integrity and implement processes to maintain the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
3. Ensure the HIM department complies with internal policies, healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, and other federal and state laws governing patient information.
4. May serve as a record custodian representative in legal hearings, attesting to the authenticity of the medical record.
5. Conduct regular audits to identify and address compliance issues.
6. Assist with developing, implementing, and reviewing HIM policies and procedures to ensure they align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
7. Provide training and professional development opportunities for HIM staff. Keep the team updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
8. Promote the use of HIM-related technologies and identify opportunities to enhance system functionality and automation.
9. Lead efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of HIM processes. Implement strategies to optimize workflows, reduce errors, and improve medical record management.
10.Collaborate with clinical, business office and IT departments to support the seamless flow of health information across the organization.
11.Address inquiries and concerns from patients, healthcare providers, and other customers regarding health information promptly and professionally.
12.Generate and analyze reports on HIM activities, performance metrics, and compliance status. Present findings and recommendations for improvements to HIM leadership.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Associate degree preferred.
- Three (3) years of leadership and/or consultative experience within healthcare or an HIM department.
- Proficiency in managing electronic health records (EHR) and related health information systems.
- Ability to analyze and interpret healthcare data.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Applications such as Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in resolving disputes and maintaining a harmonious working environment.
- Effective at prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Effective in identifying issues and implementing solutions timely.
- Ability to make informed decisions that benefit the department and organization.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- RHIT or RHIA certification desirable
