GENERAL SUMMARY:

To maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors in accordance with

department policies and standard operating procedures. Reports to the Supervisor of

Security and coordinating Shift Charge Officers.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Patrol Hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal

entry. Correct and/or report to the proper authority/department any and all safety

hazards and unsecured areas discovered while on patrol.

2. Lock and unlock hospital doors or areas according to department policies.

3. Provide general and vehicle assistance as required according to department policy.

4. Respond to emergency/crisis situations and resolve these situations in accordance

with the intent and spirit of HFWH and Security department policies.

5. Resolve parking problems and violations. Provide escorts per policy.

6. Perform routine investigations of criminal activity according to department policies.

Displays understanding of all Environment of Care emergency response procedures.

7. Responsible for insuring that all reports, and other paperwork is completed properly,

accurately and in a timely manner. Prepare daily IRIMS and ACT-track logs of daily

activities and incidents or unusual occurrences during the shift. Display technical

competence in all aspects of report writing, PC operation, and data input.

8. Assist with Visitor Control, maintaining order and preventing unauthorized visitations

at the direction of Nursing personnel or Security Services policy.

9. Performs investigations, question individuals in unauthorized areas or in violation of

other Hospital policy utilizing local police agencies for assistance if necessary.

10. Demonstrates competence in securing all areas of Hospital for all age groups of

patients interacted with (i.e. neonate, infant, early and late childhood, adolescence,

adult, senior adult, geriatric, etc.) as evidence by the number of patient incidents,

department head observation and feedback from others.

11. Position requires 1-2 years of experience, with HealthCare Security Officer, Military

Security Officer or Police Officer experience preferred.

12. Special duties/projects as directed by the Manager.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· High School Diploma or equivalent, College level criminal justice coursework or

Security/Police training preferred. PC Basic skills.

· Position requires 1-2 years of experience, with HealthCare Security

Officer, Military Security Officer or Police Officer experience

preferred.

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Valid Michigan Driver License required.
