EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
  • Ability to read and write in order to prepare reports and analytical skills in order to investigate situations at a level normally acquired through completion of high school. 
  • Approximately two years related work experience and/or equivalent education necessary in order to fully understand the role of a Security Officer and to obtain knowledge of fire and safety procedures and security surveillance equipment.    
  • Communication skills and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a wide variety of individuals during stressful and/or emergent situations.  
  • Analytical ability necessary to conduct a thorough investigation. 
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: 

Must acquire Hospital sponsored CPI Certification (Crisis Prevention Institute) training and the International Association of Hospital Safety & Security, Basic Security Officer Certification within the first 6 months of employment. Current Michigan driver’s license in order to operate a vehicle and ability to use both manual and standard transmissions.  After 90 days of employment, must apply for and receive commercial driver’s license. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: 
  • Constant movement from location to location as well as frequent (up to 20 percent of work time) ability to drive in order to patrol and monitor assigned area. 
  • Exposure to weather conditions up to 20 percent of work time. 
  • Potential for physical injury when interacting with combative patients or restraining a suspect up to 10 percent of work time. 
  • Ability to lift and move patients and/or transport bodies to the morgue
