GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the security function at assigned Henry 
Ford Health locations. Coordinates and directs activities of all department personnel 
engaged in providing a safe and secure hospital environment. Responsible for the 
development and maintenance of the department budget, policies, procedures, and 
goals. Serves as a technical resource to staff members and a liaison to outside law 
enforcement/security, safety, and public service agencies.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan, direct and coordinate the operations and personnel activities of Security 
Services to ensure hospital-wide safety and security for employees, patients, and 
visitors.
2. Develops short/long range department plans. Administers policies and procedures 
that are consistent with Henry Ford Health security philosophy, as well as 
recognized standards in the hospital security profession. Ensures compliance with 
local, state, and federal statutes and accrediting agency regulations.
3. Maintain highly effective communication and partnership with all department 
managers, patients, visitors, and physicians concerning various security risks.
4. Maintains and demonstrates expertise in the field by identifying, communicating, and 
providing education related to security risks that could impact the organization.
5. Oversees maintenance and updating of various records, databases, and systems to 
ensure accurate and complete data is recorded. Periodically audits information and 
report variances and makes changes when necessary. Prepares or oversees 
preparation of a variety of reoccurring special reports, statistical analyses, and the 
like.
6. Develops, and upon approval, implements and administers the department budget. 
Monitors adherence to budget and initiates corrective action, as necessary.
7. Administers crisis resolution. Serves as an active member of Hospital Safety and 
Disaster committees, and other committees as appointed.
8. Frequently called upon to handle emergencies needed to maintain a safe 
environment for all HFWH customers and staff.
9. Oversees work schedules for security personnel to maintain efficient department 
operations and uninterrupted services to designated Henry Ford Health properties.
10.Monitors supervisor and officer morale and attempts to resolve problem situations.
11.Evaluates and counsels shift leadership personnel on their job performance and 
assesses each according to departmental and Henry Ford Health standards. 
12.Ensure quality of work within the department. Develop and implement methods and 
procedures for the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness. 
13.Interviews, hires, and assists with establishing performance standards for effective 
employee evaluation, and counsels subordinates on professional development.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Associate’s Degree in Security Administration, Criminal Justice, or related fields.
• Five to seven (5-7) years of progressively more responsible experience in security 
operations, including a minimum of 3-5 years security supervisor experience. 
• Seven to ten (7-10) years preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Must qualify for any state required licensing.
