Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties and tasks related to customer service and maintaining a secure and orderly environment and protection of the grounds. The K-9 officer works in tandem with a canine partner. The K-9 team regularly patrols hospital property, screens visitors and performs other activities relating to the safety and security of staff, patients and visitors. The K-9 Team protects hospital property, employees, patients and visitors against fire, theft, vandalism, aggressive individuals and other illegal or unauthorized activities. The K-9 Officer maintains 24-hour on-call response where their presence is likely to aid in a favorable resolution. The K-9 Officer maintains 24-hour responsibility for his/her canine partner ensuring a healthy environment at work and home, inclusive of proper feeding , bathing, grooming, social activities, exercise, training, regular physical inspections, medical care and the like. The K-9 Team participates in regularly scheduled training programs and exercises designed to improve the proficiency of the handler and dog and accustom the canine to react and perform in various situations and environments. Performs all the duties of Security K-9 Handler whenever assigned by the Manager of Security or designee.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
One (1) year as a Security Officer, Police or Military required.
Three plus (3+) years as a Security Officer, Police or Military preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
CPI Training (Crisis Prevention and Intervention) within six (6) months of hire.
I.A.H.S.S. (International Association of Hospital Security and Safety) certification within 6 months of hire.
Valid Michigan driver’s license and clean drivers record.
Successful completion of K-9 Academy Training Facility Certification within six (6) months of hire.
