Respiratory Therapist Registered - Part time - Nights - Wyandotte
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, delivers life-support, resuscitation, monitoring and various medical gases therapy to patients. Performs invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures to Intensive Care and General
Practice Units patients. Maintains clinical expertise for Departmental assignments at various business units throughout HFHS, as assigned. Communicates effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians and other system employees as needed, regarding patient care needs. Adequately documents all aspects of patient care. Supervises, directs and delegates to Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory orients, externs and students, as assigned. Completes necessary and accurate patient billing information.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs patient assessment, care-planning and collaboration with other health care providers. Patient care provides 100% of work hours.
· Delegates aspects of patient care appropriately to support staff (Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory orients, externs and students, as assigned), providing necessary communication and guidance to those support providers.
· Functions as a team member in care of patients and in mentoring with other staff.
· Communicates with co-workers, and other professionals, including physicians and nurses as needed to ensure optimal patient care. Attends and actively contributes to daily bedside rounds.
· Maintains high standards of clinical excellence, according to Departmental policies.
· Demonstrates proficiency in various Departmental subspecialties, clinical areas, life support, diagnostic and monitoring equipment, as assigned. Displays competency in various special procedures and protocols, and works in multiple IPD locations as assigned.
· Maintains clinical productivity standards.
· Maintains technical clinical expertise through professional associations and educational activities.
· Stays current in Respiratory Therapy developments by attending conferences, participating in in-services, staff meetings, and peer review/chart review as appropriate.
· Performs specific duties as determined by site assignments, which may include equipment cleaning, maintenance, repair and testing.
· Documents patient care timely and in accordance with department standards.
· Maintains awareness of patient safety issues within the clinic and in the use of equipment
· Maintains patient confidentiality according to HFHS HIPAA policies.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program.
· Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy preferred, Associate of Science Degree, minimum
· Recent graduate of a Respiratory Therapy school or two years of recent Respiratory
· Therapist experience in a Tertiary Hospital.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
· Registration with the National Board of Respiratory Care.
· Current License - Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan
· Newly graduated therapists will be allowed 90 days from the date of graduation to complete their registration with the National Board of Respiratory Care and to obtain a State of Michigan Respiratory Therapist License. If not obtained, will be terminated.
· Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS’ Customer Service Policy
· Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Work performed in a patient care setting and blood-analysis laboratories with potential exposure to communicable disease.
· Wash, clean and disinfect soiled medical equipment.
· Work with pressurized piped-in and bottled medical gases.
· Incorrect lifting, moving and use of equipment could result in personal, patient and/or equipment injury.
· Must be able to constantly move, lift patients, help push patients on hospital beds, and move heavy equipment across the Hospital.
· Limited noise, temperature fluctuation and dust are possible.
