Henry Ford Health and Ascension SE Michigan came together to form a joint venture effective October 1, 2024.

Henry Ford Providence Hospital, previously known as Ascension Providence Hospital, is looking for a 0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week Program Director – Gastroenterology Fellowship Program. The 20 hours per week will consist of 0.3 FTE administrative time and 0.2 FTE as preceptor in the fellows clinic.

The position reports to the DME/DIO and is fully accredited by the ACGME. There are 11 fellows in the fellowship program.

The Program Director is responsible for the general administration of the program, including all activities related to recruitment, selection, instruction, supervision, counseling, evaluation and advancement of residents and the maintenance of all records related to program accreditation.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare written goals and objectives of the program with respect to knowledge, skills, and other attributes of residents at each level of training for each major rotation or assignments.

2. Ensure and monitor participation of residents in Quality Improvement projects and assess completion before graduation.

3. Ensure that the objectives and expectations are readily available for review and are distributed to the residents and faculty.

4. Work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator and APDs to monitor the performance of the program regularly.

5. Develop residency assignments and schedules to meet the educational goals of the program

6. Plan, coordinate, and implement curriculum and evaluation methodology for the general competencies in alignment with ACGME requirements.

7. Encourage/promote research/scholarly activity amongst fellows and faculty.

8. Select residents of the highest caliber for appointment to the program in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures.

9. Select, supervise, counsel and evaluate faculty, at least yearly, utilizing confidential resident evaluations and other instruments as deemed appropriate.

10. Create written policies that describe the supervision and lines of authority for the care of all patients associated with the program.

11. Maintains an evaluation program for each resident with regular feedback, at least semi-annually, regarding individual progress.

12. Communicate and document each evaluation to the resident in a timely manner. All evaluations and counseling sessions are to be documented with resident and faculty member signatures.

13. Maintain a permanent record of evaluation for each resident that is accessible to the resident and other authorized personnel.

14. Prepare a comprehensive final summative evaluation and letter of recommendation for each resident who completes the program. The letter must verify that the resident has demonstrated sufficient professional ability to practice competently and independently. This final letter and evaluation is to be part of the resident’s permanent record maintained by the institution as the letter of reference.

15. Monitor resident stress, including mental or emotional conditions or drug or alcohol related dysfunction.

16. Review and consult with the Director of Medical Education regarding any resident disciplinary steps by following the appropriate GME policy.

17. Ensures that residents promote the overall goals and mission of Medical Education, as well as comply with all hospital and departmental policies/procedures.

18. Ensures the program meets all applicable accreditation requirements and maintains full accreditation status.

19. Provide complete and accurate program information forms and resident (operative) records to the accreditation authorities as requested.

20. Conduct and document an annual meeting with the faculty and the residents to evaluate the program’s effectiveness and make appropriate changes.

21. Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with institutional GME policies and procedures.

22. Submit required documentation (ie ACGME ADS) as requested by GME Administration.

23. Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with all accreditation requirements including institutional requirements, common program requirements, and specific program requirements.

24. Monitor and document resident duty hours to insure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.

25. Participate in the GMEC meeting, subcommittees and task forces and internal review committees as requested, including program representation at all meetings.

26. Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with other hospital departments, the community, and medical schools.

27. Work collaboratively with the Department of Medical Education and Administration to ensure effective and efficient accomplishment of departmental goals and associated tasks.

28. Oversee the curriculum, assignment, and evaluation of medical students assigned to the department.

29. Develop and implement a personal development program to insure professional growth.

30. Participate in appropriate professional organizations to enhance the development of the residency program.

Qualifications:

· Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program.

· Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program.

· BC in specialty.

· 1-2 years of previous experience in a faculty role or an Associate Program Director role is preferred.

· Interest in teaching.
