GENERAL SUMMARY:

Works in conjunction with the SandCastles team to provide for the needs of grieving children and their families.

·       Provides for the SandCastles Program - recruiting, assessment, orientation, training, managing, evaluating, and recognizing volunteers.

·       Required for evening (occasional weekend) functions for coordination and supervision of the program at one or more sites in-person and/or virtual.

·       Responsible for leadership of an age group at overnight weekend grief camp.

·       Responsible for the planning, implementation, and facilitating of group activities and management of children's grief group volunteer facilitators and adjunct volunteers at sites, virtual, and camps.

·       Responsible for relationship with sponsoring site(s) including date planning, contract needs, and space usage oversight.

·       Responsible for the marketing and fundraising, including fundraising committees, at assigned sites.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

·       Bachelor's Degree with a background in counseling, social work, psychology, or relevant field required.

·       Master's Degree preferred.

 EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

·       Minimum of five (5) years commensurate work experience accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree.

·       Previous experience working with volunteers, bereavement, and children's issues preferred.

·       Proficiency with software programs, including Microsoft office required.

·       Flexibility to participate at the overnight children's grief camp weekend required.

·       Requires interpersonal skills to present a positive image of Henry Ford Health and SandCastles Grief Support Program to volunteers, families, and the community.

·       Displays sensitivity in discussing the reality of death, grief, and loss, with children, families, volunteers, and the community.

·       Excellent written communication skills, writing concisely and objectively in documentation with timeliness and accuracy required.

·       Maintains confidentiality of records and information relating to families, volunteers, and staff.

·       Utilizes effective communication skills and displays tact and decorum in all communication with staff, families, volunteers, administration, and community representatives.

·       Transports supplies to assigned community program sites.

·       Responsible for set up and take down at program sites as needed. (i.e., May include setting up tables/tents, moving/transporting bins, and boxes.)

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

·       Must have valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

·       Works in a clean, well-lighted office environment.

·       Works in a variety of community program settings and camps.

·       Subjected to irregular working hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

·       Must have valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.

·       Requires use of personal vehicle during work hours for travel within surrounding counties to SandCastles program sites and camp.

·       Occasional lifting may be required.

·       Works under the supervision of the SandCastles Manager and Leadership.

·       In the absence of a Program or Clinical Staff, may need to cover duties.

Equipment:

·       Office equipment, supplies, and database necessary to provide SandCastles services.

·       Use of protective equipment as needed for standard precautions.
