GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Central Fill Pharmacy Operations (CFPO) Manager reports to the Director of Pharmacy, System Operations and is responsible for overseeing the operations of the central fill pharmacy, located at the Centralized Pharmacy Services Center (CPSC).
The CFPO Manager serves as the operational leader for Henry Ford Health’s CFPO program within the CPSC. This position is responsible for successful implementation, activation, optimization, and ongoing management of the enterprise central fill pharmacy model, supporting more than 40 outpatient pharmacies through a highly automated HUB-and-spoke fulfillment network. The role is accountable for operational excellence, patient safety, regulatory compliance, business continuity, financial performance, automation optimization, and strategic growth initiatives that advance the High Value Pharmacy Enterprise (HVPE) vision.
This position ensures accurate, timely, and safe dispensing of medications, compliance with all regulatory standards, and optimization of workflows to support retail pharmacy locations. The manager will lead a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff to meet productivity, quality, and customer service goals.
PRINCPLE DUTIES & RESPONSBILTIES:
Lead operational implementation and activation of the Central Fill Pharmacy Operations (CFPO) program, including workflow design, operational readiness, staffing models, policy development, training programs, system testing, go-live planning, stabilization, and post-implementation optimization.
Lead daily central fill operations to ensure safe, accurate, and timely prescription processing, verification, packaging, and delivery.
Serve as the operational leader for the CFPO HUB within the Centralized Pharmacy Services Center (CPSC), coordinating prescription fulfillment services to support the outpatient pharmacy network and enterprise standardization initiatives.
Support development and expansion of centralized pharmacy services including central fill, central mail, compliance packaging, refill retention programs, specialty support services, and future enterprise pharmacy initiatives.
Accountable for operational and financial performance of the CFPO, including productivity, labor management, inventory optimization, cost-per-prescription metrics, service levels, and realization of approved business case assumptions.
Ensure ongoing regulatory, licensure, and inspection readiness for the facility and staff. Maintain compliance with Board of Pharmacy standards, DEA and controlled substance regulations, USP and OSHA requirements, HIPAA/privacy rules, accrediting bodies, and internal company policies. Maintain all required records and documentation.
Lead quality, patient safety, and risk‑management initiatives, including implementation of control measures (barcoding, labeling, verification), investigation of events and complaints, root‑cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. Support recall management and diversion‑prevention/security efforts.
Oversee automation systems and supporting technologies to ensure reliability, proper validation/change control, preventive maintenance, vendor and IT issue resolution, data integrity, cybersecurity practices, and effective downtime procedures.
Manage inventory and supply chain operations, including procurement coordination, receiving, storage, cold‑chain and hazardous materials handling, cycle counts, reconciliation, backorder and shortage strategies, returns processing, and waste/expiration reduction.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives by standardizing work, removing bottlenecks, improving productivity and service, and developing business cases and ROI analyses for new capabilities or capital needs.
Provide effective site‑level leadership through daily and weekly huddles, collaboration with retail pharmacy leaders and cross‑functional teams, and clear escalation and communication practices during constraints or service disruptions.
Partner with outpatient pharmacy management, directors, other pharmacy leaders, supply chain, information technology, revenue cycle, and centralized support teams to ensure seamless HUB-and-spoke integration.
Maintain and routinely test business continuity, disaster recovery, downtime, and operational resiliency plans supporting CFPO and enterprise pharmacy fulfillment operations.
Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to ensure scalable infrastructure, staffing, automation, and workflow capabilities that support long-term enterprise growth.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Must have obtained an advanced degree (Pharm.D. or equivalent), completed a residency program approved by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, a fellowship in pharmacy, or have demonstrated a similar level of achievement in the practice of hospital pharmacy.
The ideal candidate will have experience in centralized pharmacy operations, retail pharmacy workflows, automation systems, and regulatory compliance. Strong leadership, project management, and quality assurance skills are required.
Must demonstrate leadership ability in working with and coordinating activities of others in developing improved pharmacy services.
Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. He/she should likewise demonstrate a desire to contribute to the pharmaceutical literature. Must demonstrate knowledge of progressive hospital pharmacy practice.
Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and a willingness to assume additional responsibility.
Must be able to work with pharmacy students at all levels.
Should have completed research which demonstrates originality and investigative ability in an area of administrative and/or clinical pharmacy practice. The work should be suitable for publication in the pharmaceutical or medical literature.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan. Should be Board Certified in his/her area of specialty practice.
