Join Henry Ford Health as the Supervisor of Pharmacy Automation Systems, where you'll play a key role in developing, building, implementing and supporting our pharmacy automation systems, while providing direct leadership to our dedicated team.

Supervisor – Pharmacy Automation Systems reports to the respective Pharmacy Leader within Pharmacy Shared Services. The supervisor is responsible for developing, building, implementing, and supporting pharmacy automation systems. Responsible for providing direct oversight and leadership to a team of pharmacy technician specialists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks and database analysts. Responsible for related policy and procedure development and the oversight of training and related manuals. Provides assistance with store planning/opening, IT budget, and IT capital. Will assist the APL in identifying opportunities to streamline patient care, improve the provision of pharmacy services, and decrease waste and rework.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides day-to-day supervision and support of Pharmacy Automation Systems, which include but are not limited to:
    • Automated dispensing cabinets across the entirety of the health system. 
    • Pharmacy dispensing devices, such as carousel technologies, cabinets, and packagers utilized across Henry Ford Health’s clinical delivery system.
    • Various automated packaging solutions supporting regulatory compliant unit-dose packaging of medications to lowest unit of measure for ambient air, cold chain, hazardous, whole-tab, half-tab, syringe, oral liquid, and topical dosage forms.
    • Sterile compounding automation utilized within sterile cleanrooms across the clinical delivery system.
    • Other pharmacy systems supporting enterprise pharmacy operations, such as controlled substance diversion software, federal drug supply chain compliance software, cold chain monitoring software, to name a few.
  • Responsible for ensuring Pharmacy Automation Systems’ software and hardware are appropriately functioning to support pharmacy operations across the clinical delivery system via the hub-spoke model through the centralized pharmacy services center. 
  • Interacts and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders to better understand needs and challenges
  • Collaborates with corporate and division teams to track and analyze financial data

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Management, Health Administration, Accounting, or related field, or the equivalent in work experience, with minimum of three (3) years of experience involving medication procurement, pharmacy sourcing and medication inventory management in a health care setting required.
  • Pharmacy technician experience for at least five (5) years required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience with various pharmacy dispensing systems, inventory management, and other automation supporting pharmacy operations required, with particular preference to experience using BD Pyxis, ARxIUM Carousels, and RxWorks.
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Knowledge and/or understanding of 340b preferred.
  • Must demonstrate leadership ability in working with and coordinating activities of others in developing improved operational services.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead work groups effectively.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of managed care and progressive pharmacy practice. Time management, team building, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and a willingness to assume additional responsibility.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of Henry Ford Health business practices and a competency in a specialized area of procurement.
  • Must possess the personality and ability to work with a wide variety of people under sometimes stressful situations.
  • Must be motivated to provide high quality patient care.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Current State of Michigan pharmacy technician licensure required.
