Come join the Henry Ford Health (HFH) corporate pharmacy team to create the future of pharmacy practice in Southeast Michigan. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented sterile compounding pharmacist to join our Centralized Sterile Compounding Center (CSCC) team.

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Schedule: Full Time Day Shifts

Location: Elijah McCoy, Detroit

This role supports sterile compounding operations that serves the HFH enterprise.   The pharmacist will ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality compounding practices. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience with sterile compounding, total parenteral nutrition and associated regulations.  

PRINCPLE DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Oversight of sterile compounding activities and supervision of technical staff
  • Prepares patient specific (TPN, IV chemotherapy) and batch sterile compounds 
  • Performs final Compounded Sterile Products (CSP) visual inspection, verification, labeling, and storage
  • Maintains all required documentation for cleanroom facilities and environment
  • Maintains all required documentation for patient-specific and anticipatory batch sterile compounded products
  • Communicates with pharmacy sites regarding patient specific orders or batch compounds.
  • Responds to and triages product or delivery concerns
  • Assists in the evaluation and deployment of new CSPs
  • Collaborates with pharmacy staff to maintain accurate medication and supply inventory
  • Ensures compliance with USP, state, federal and regulatory sterile compounding standards, and HFH policies and procedures pertaining to sterile compounding
  • Partners with CSCC team members and leadership to identify and implement process improvements – enhancing service, quality, and operational excellence
  • Assists with preparation of the pharmacy for inspections including but not limited to, FDA, NABP, DEA, TJC, state boards of pharmacy
  • Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  • Receive orders and prepare and package medications for delivery
  • Performs pharmacy cleaning as needed
  • Assist with training of staff and precepting as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy; residency in hospital pharmacy strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sterile compounding in an acute care, health system, home care, infusion center, or 503a/b setting preferred
  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN), automated IV compounding devices, and EPIC experience preferred
  • Knowledge of USP <797>, USP <800>, FDA regulations, and other applicable sterile compounding standards

     

  • Should demonstrate acumen in verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of drug information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. 
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of disease states and have the application skills needed to permit proper integration of these in monitoring drug therapy.
  • Must have basic abilities for participating in the various teaching programs including instruction and supervision of undergraduate pharmacy students, interns, and pharmacy technician trainees. Should have the skills necessary for providing informal and formal instruction of students and other health care providers on drug therapy and inpatient operational activities.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work with others in developing improved services for patients. 

     

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: 

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacist position.
