Job Title: Orthopedic Technician

General Summary:

The Orthopedic Technician works under the general direction of the physician to assist with the care of patients requiring orthopedic services. This role is responsible for the application, repair, and removal of casts, as well as the set-up and adjustment of traction devices according to physician instructions. The Orthopedic Technician assumes responsibility for the orthopedic cast room, supporting physicians and staff to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply, repair, and remove orthopedic casts as directed by physicians.

  • Assist physicians and clinical staff with orthopedic procedures, including the fitting and removal of splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices.

  • Set up and adjust traction devices as instructed by orthopedic physicians.

  • Maintain and organize the orthopedic cast room, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and readiness of equipment and supplies.

  • Provide patient education on cast care, mobility, and follow-up instructions.

  • Document procedures and patient interactions accurately in the medical record.

  • Assist with supply ordering and inventory management related to orthopedic equipment.

  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols at all times.

Qualifications:

  • At least six (6) months of previous clinical experience as a Medical Assistant or Orthopedic Technician.

  • Casting and splinting experience preferred.

  • Basic understanding of orthopedic terminology, equipment, and procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Ability to provide compassionate patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • At least six months previous clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Orthopedic Technician.
  • Casting and splinting experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Current Heart Saver Certification.
