GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Nursing Manager is a Registered Nurse who is accountable for leading, managing, developing, supervising and evaluating the delivery of patient care at multiple sites or departments and/or has a minimum of one supervisor and/or 20 or more employees, in the Ambulatory Department. Provides clinic leadership and works in partnership with nursing, the health care team and leadership to assure quality patient care. Care is provided in accordance with departmental, Henry Ford Medical Group and health system policies and procedures. Facilitates empowerment of staff in the implementation of creative and innovative patient care delivery models and stimulates a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach in the continuous improvement of patient care services. In conjunction with the Administrator, assumes responsibility for fiscal management of clinic/department. 

PLYMOUTH MEDICAL CENTER:

The Plymouth Medical Center has 2 Operating Rooms and supports multiple outpatient surgery specialties including Orthopedics, Urology, Plastics, and ENT. There is shelled out space for future surgical expansion. There are 14 Pre-Post Recovery spaces with the availability to support extended recovery and a full service sterile reprocessing department.

PRINCIPALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops a high functioning team and healthy work environment.
  2. Focuses on staff development, career enrichment and provides educational opportunities.
  3. Commitment to achieving system goals related to employee opinion survey and service excellence initiatives.
  4. Provides leadership, education and mentoring for staff.
  5. Knows regulatory standards from TJC, OSHA, MIOSHA, MDPH and Nursing Practice standards to ensure appropriate policies, procedures and protocols are being established and/or maintained throughout the department/clinic.
  6. Accountable for ongoing evaluation process to assure compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards.
  7. Identifies risk issues, prepares response, implements plan and evaluates outcomes.
  8. Accountable for maintenance and service for all equipment.
  9. Communicates with patients, family members, supervisors, technical personnel in order to resolve problems and ensure the provision of quality care.
  10. Demonstrates leadership accountability in the systems renewal and service excellence initiatives.
  11. Plans and implements staff scheduling based on data to meet financial targets.
  12. Responsible for insuring that proper personnel procedures are followed in terms of interviewing, evaluating, orienting and training new staff.
  13. Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for personnel Facilitates professional development and clinical growth through implementation and maintenance of mandatory and special competencies.
  14. Maintains records relating to licensure, certifications and attendance of staff.
  15. Plans and conducts meetings to keep nursing leadership staff abreast of current hospital and health network information.
  16. Maintains current knowledge of grievance and disciplinary procedures.
  17. Communicates effectively and maintains competent coaching and counseling skills during performance review and employee discipline process.
  18. Leads and actively participates in quality and safety initiatives.
  19. Works collaboratively with nursing leadership across the HFHS to provide consistent nursing practice.
  20. Utilizes evidence based practice to revise policies and procedures.
  21. Represents nursing on various committees and councils.
  22. Participates in community activities and or professional organizations.
  23. Actively supports nursing research.

POSITION SUMMARY: 

  1. Position: 40 hours, Monday - Friday, no weekends 
  2. Shift: Days 
  3. Full Time Benefit Package 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelors Degree in nursing or related field required.
  2. Masters Degree in nursing, business administration, health care administration, or equivalent is preferred.
  3. Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience demonstrating leadership skills in a clinical setting is required. Some examples include: charge nurse duties; leadership of special projects such as service excellence teams; quality improvement initiatives, and clinic process redesign.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage complex clinical, administrative, and interpersonal problems.
  5. Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
  6. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES:

  1. Current license to practice in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Current BLS/ACLS required.
