EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • Completion of accredited Bachelor’s Degree program in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science. 
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a histotechnologist, preferred. 
  • At least one (1) year of supervised training in a clinical laboratory in histologic techniques to perform tissue staining procedures and the processing of bone marrow specimens preferred. 
  • This position is for the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) area.  This position will perform immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization procedures using automated stainers, as well as by manual methods if necessary.  This position will also select and document control material and maintain all instrumentation, reagents, and documentation associated with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization procedures.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior Histology and Immunohistochemistry experience
  •  Working knowledge of IHC theory
  • HT or HTL certification (ASCP)
  • Vision:

  2. Depth Perception: Ability to judge distance and space relationships. 
  3. Accommodation: Ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus. 
  4. Color Vision: Ability to distinguish and identify different colors necessary to perform job functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: 
  • Regularly exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens, organs and tissues. 
  • Regular exposure to electrical equipment, chemicals, odors, changing temperatures, and frequent interruptions. 
  • May handle absentee replacement on short notice. 
  • May require prolonged standing, walking, and the ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs. 
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: 
  • Eye and face protection, gown, lab coat, apron, mask, non-sterile medical gloves and utility gloves as required by task or duties.
