Laboratory Driver - Lab Outreach - 36 hrs - Afternoons -
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Laboratory Drivers pick-up and transport laboratory specimens and supplies. Primary duties
include driving, following a pickup schedule, and documenting all stops. Must operate motor
vehicles in a safe manner and follow all traffic and local laws. Greets and communicates with
clients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner. Maintains confidentiality of patient
and business information. Performs routine vehicle maintenance such as refueling and
maintaining cleanliness. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with
endorsements that may be required.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Picks-up and transports laboratory specimens and supplies to support laboratory
outreach.
2. Drives between sites according to specified schedules without changes unless
otherwise specified by supervisor. May be asked to adjust scheduled to make stat
runs, but may not do so without prior approval.
3. Greets clients in a friendly and courteous manner representing the professionalism
and service excellence of the Henry Ford Medical Laboratory brand. Maintains strict
compliance to System and HIPPA rules regarding confidentiality of patient and
business information.
4. Documents all stops, specimens, and supplies which are delivered. Follows all
laboratory outreach policies. May not transport other individuals without prior
permission from supervisor.
5. Maintains a clean, professional, and well groomed appearance in compliance with
HFHS standards of excellence. Specified clothing may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. High School diploma required.
2. Courteous disposition with good communication and customer service skills.
3. Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license with any required
endorsements. Must maintain a good driving record that is deemed acceptable by the
HFHS motor vehicle insurance carrier.
4. Evidence of familiarity with Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb County expressways and
surface streets and the ability to quickly learn assigned routes and customer locations.
