Position Summary:


This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening.  Both qualified/experienced NP and PA applicants will be considered, as well as new graduates.  Prefer Hem/Onc experience, but open to dedicated candidates with an interest to the specialty and team.


Advanced Practice Professional will provide health care and specialized health services to patients and families enrolled in HEMOC Medicine.  The APP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with all members of the health care team.  This position will be 10% inpatient, 90% outpatient.


Applicants must be licensed to see adult population (18 and up) – this is a position where you will see 100% adult case load.


Assessment, work-up, care & treatment of hematology/oncology, patients including chemotherapy education & management, survivorship, chemotherapy informational visits, chemotherapy management, office visits, survivorship care, bone marrow biopsy, video visits, in basket management, tumor board summaries, infusion reaction response.


Hematology Oncology is a fast paced, patient focused environment that strikes to provide an exceptional experience every time.  Attention to detail, professional communication skills, and ability to work with a variety of team members and roles are key attributes to delivering coordinated, high-quality care.  A high number of providers, clinical team members and clerical team members to serve patients in the office, infusion center, and inpatient.

-          Independently evaluates patients in the clinic and in the hospital

-          Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results

-          Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management

-          Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members and other ambulatory care providers

-          Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction

-          Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals


Procedures – bone marrow biopsy (will train)


Schedule – Monday – Friday, 730a – 530p (can vary)


Weekend requirement – not presently, possibly in the future

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.       In collaboration with physician(s), APP will provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a patients and families enrolled in HEMOC Medicine.

2.       Writes appropriate orders, if/when applicable

3.       Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods

4.       Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic

5.       Writes progress notes in EMR indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed

6.       Provides health education to patients, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups

7.       Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshop

8.       May perform clinical research related to specific operations

9.       Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

Moderate physical activity.  Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Specialty/Invasive Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Specialty/Invasive NP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience. Works in one of the following departments: Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ICU, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, Urgent Care, Urology. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in nursing. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Current State license as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS. Current ACLS/ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department.

Continuing Education

3.       Applicant must have sufficient education credits to maintain licensure as required by the applicable State of Michigan licensing board
