GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Emergency Room Technical Assistant provides support in delivering quality patient care based on individual needs, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or provider. This role assists in ensuring a safe and efficient environment for patients, families, and the healthcare team within the fast-paced Emergency Room setting.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with basic patient care including activities of daily living, mobility, and comfort measures.
- Obtain and record vital signs, patient weights, and other observations as directed.
- Support nursing staff and providers with patient positioning, transport, and equipment set-up.
- Maintain clean and organized patient rooms, restock supplies, and ensure proper equipment functioning.
- Assist with specimen collection and transport as needed.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and communicate patient needs to nursing staff.
- Observe patients for changes in condition and report promptly to the RN or provider.
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection control, and safety standards at all times.
- Support the team in emergency situations by providing necessary assistance.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- BCLS certification required.
- Previous Emergency Department Technician, Medical Assistant experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- One of the following certifications/programs required: B-EMT, Graduate from a formal Medical Assistant program, Completion of a formal nursing education program, Completion of a formal medical doctor education program OR One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience in lieu of above completed certification/program. (Must complete applicable certification/program within 12 months of hire).
- Successful completion of a 180-day orientation period required.
- EMT license preferred.
