Position Overview:

Henry Ford Plymouth Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Emergency Medicine team in a part-time role averaging 20 hours per week. The APP will manage an average of two patients per hour, with approximately 10% pediatric cases. Responsibilities include the initial evaluation, workup, treatment, and documentation of assigned patients, as well as providing meaningful assistance during critical patient scenarios.

The APP will perform procedures independently or under guidance depending on experience and skill level, including incision and drainage, laceration repair, wound care, foreign body removal, and splinting.

While preferred qualifications include prior experience as an Emergency Department APP, candidates without direct ED APP experience may still be considered—particularly those with a background as an ED RN or ED technician who demonstrate the ability to succeed in this environment. New graduates will be reviewed but are less likely to be selected.

This position also offers potential opportunities for moonlighting at other Henry Ford satellite locations and the possibility of increasing FTE in the future, if desired.

Schedule – Part time. 20 hours per week average.  10-hour shifts, mix of day and evening shifts.  Current shift times are 10a-8p and 4p-2a.

Weekend requirement – 1 weekend of 4 per month.  For 5 weekend months, may have additional requirement – burden shared equitably between colleagues.

Call requirement – No.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Specialty/Invasive Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Specialty/Invasive NP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience. Works in one of the following departments: Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ICU, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, Urgent Care, Urology. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in nursing. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Current State license as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS. Current ACLS/ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department.

Qualifications:

·         NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

·         PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

·         NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan

·         PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Licensure and Certification

·         Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)

·         National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)

·         Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

·         Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

·         DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.

o   DEA - NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs.  When NPs apply, they will enter MI license number instead of controlled substance license since they won't have a CSL.

·         PALS

Experience

·         Prefer 1 year ED APP experience.

·         Must be certified in both pediatric and adult patients.
