Director - Outpatient Pharmacy Services
The Director, Outpatient Pharmacy Services is responsible for planning, development and organization of Henry Ford Health Ambulatory Pharmacy, operations, programs, policies/procedures, budgets, and new business opportunities. Plan, organize and implement Ambulatory pharmacy policies and procedures in accordance with established policies of the hospital, in cooperation with other departments of the hospital, and in accordance with accepted standards of good pharmacy practice. Provide administrative support and direction in the implementation of new pharmacy programs, performance indicators, pharmacy I.S. and educational activities that support the strategic initiatives of the Ambulatory Pharmacy Product Line and the Henry Ford Experience. Provide oversight of federal drug discount programs for all CCS Ambulatory Pharmacies. Reports to the V.P., Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development of departmental policies, procedures, performance standards and performance indicators for multiple CCS Ambulatory Pharmacy sites.
- Seek compliance with outside agencies relevant to requirements for maintenance of services. Assure that professional competence of staff is maintained through education and coordination with senior staff. Plan for both short and long-range goals, objectives, and initiatives for all CCS Ambulatory Pharmacies in concert with the whole organizational plan of the Health System.
- Determine the divisional capital expense and assist in the development of operating budgets. Oversees adherence to budgets and performance indicators.
- Oversight of the federal drug discount program legislation for all CCS Ambulatory Pharmacies including pharmacy compliance, vendor compliance, operational changes, and pricing opportunities.
- Identify and develop/implement new business opportunities, cost reduction initiatives, pharmacy programs and services internally and external to the Health System.
- Provide administrative support for Pharmacy I.T. staff and marketing.
- Ensure that pharmacy management software, software and hardware provide highest level of patient safety quality assurance.
- Establish relationships with key Clinic staff at CCS Ambulatory Pharmacy sites and at corporate level to promote the Ambulatory Pharmacy Product Line System in sourcing and open communications and develop new HUBS to increase internal capture rate.
- Provide information and support for the implementation of the Henry Ford Experience and Ambulatory Pharmacy programs and services; ensure the staff(s) provides appropriate, prompt, and accurate preparation and distribution of drugs and other products to patients as well as other system entities.
- Development of leadership programs, employee engagement and training.
- Participate in various CCS Quality Management programs.
- Provide administrative oversight for the implementations of all initiatives and policies developed by the Ambulatory Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and Utilization Management department.
- Interview, hire, coach, evaluate the performance and when necessary, discipline subordinate personnel. Provide guidelines and direction to subordinate management staff in resolving complex employee relations matters and other day to day operational issues.
- Development and planning of new pharmacy locations.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and literature and attending related seminars, conferences, and the like.
- Ensure and promote CCS commitment to the Henry Ford Experience.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and current Michigan Licensure as a Registered Pharmacist required.
At least five (5) years of progressively more responsible related work experience, including a minimum of three (3) years in a leadership capacity.
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with a wide variety of system personnel, patients and members of the community and effectively lead work groups, inclusive of strong customer focus.
Analytical skills necessary to prepare and administer budgets, evaluate current methods of delivery of service to patients and assess effectiveness of these methods and recommend new techniques, procedures, and business opportunities.
