We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Dialysis Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work in patient care and a passion for helping individuals with kidney disease. As a Clinical Dialysis Technician, you will play a vital role in providing dialysis treatments and ensuring the well-being of our patients.

Shift Details: ex: (4) 10 Hour Shifts 7:00 am – 5:30 pm, Every third weekend, Holiday Rotation
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Acute Float Dialysis team specializes in providing renal replacement therapy and comprehensive care for hospitalized patients with acute kidney injury (AKI), chronic kidney disease (CKD) exacerbations, and other conditions requiring dialysis during their hospital stay.
The acute float covers our 4 main sites Henry Ford Detroit, Henry Ford Wyandotte, Henry Ford Macomb, and Henry Ford West Bloomfield and 2 contracted sites.
Our team offers targeted management for patients with acute or chronic renal conditions by addressing fluid overload, electrolyte imbalances, and toxin removal when kidney function is impaired. We provide temporary and emergency dialysis therapy to stabilize patients and support their seamless transition to long-term outpatient care when needed.
The department delivers a full spectrum of dialysis care, including:
- Hemodialysis (HD): Administered in patient rooms or in hospital unit.
- Emergency Dialysis: Offered for acute conditions such as hyperkalemia, acidosis, or toxin removal.
The acute dialysis team consists of:
- Nephrologists: Leading care plans, prescribing dialysis parameters, and managing associated conditions.
- Dialysis Nurses and Dialysis Technicians: Experts in operating dialysis machines, managing vascular access, and monitoring patient outcomes. Responsible for setting up and maintaining dialysis equipment.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: We work in partnership with ICU, nephrology, surgery, cardiology, and infectious disease teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
Our department employs advanced technology, including:
- Fresenius Blue Star Dialysis Machines: For in-room treatments and ICU settings.
- Portable MarCor 300H Water Purification Systems: for in room treatments.
The Acute float Department is dedicated to delivering exceptional care with a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring the best outcomes for our patients.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
- Perform dialysis treatments according to prescribed protocols and physician orders.
- Monitor patients during dialysis treatment, assessing vital signs and responding to any changes in condition.
- Set up and operate dialysis machines, including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues as needed.
- Administer medications and intravenous fluids as prescribed by the physician.
- Educate patients and their families about dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, and self-care techniques.
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including documenting treatment activities and patient progress.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards in the dialysis unit.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a dialysis technician training program preferred.
- Certification as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) required within 18-months of employment
