Coordinator - Interventional Radiology
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, coordinates the scheduling of Interventional procedures for outpatients. Acts as a liaison between the Interventional division personnel and the referring physicians, both in-house and off-campus, and, with the personnel of the short stay unit.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Explains procedure to patients and may be involved in preparing the patient for the examination. Coordinates daily schedules for out- patients to avoid conflict between the OPD and IPD Interventional procedures.
· Coordinates, often under emergency situations, patient transfers and admissions to HFH from the medical centers, other system hospitals, and occasionally from other states or countries.
· Instructs patients and family members on Interventional pre and post procedure care. Responsible for follow-up calls to post OPD Interventional patients.
· Obtains medication history and documents patients’ pre and post procedural status, discontinues medication if necessary with physician’s approval.
· May assist radiologists in the recovery room, monitor patients, secure pre and post procedure vital signs, etc.
· May perform venipuncture and intravenous therapy as needed, sends blood to appropriate labs.
· Acts as a liaison between Interventional and referring physicians, to include providing preliminary report, etc.
· Collects lab and other test results for out-patients scheduled for the day.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
· Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with the advanced registry in Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI); VascularInterventional Radiography (VI), or Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography (CV)
· Minimum of two years of experience in Interventional Radiology required
· Must maintain required hours of continued medical education
· Must maintain a Healthcare Provider certification (BCLS)
