Job Title: Director of Nursing

Position Summary:

The Director of Nursing provides strategic and operational leadership for inpatient clinical services, currently overseeing Medical/Surgical units, telemetry units, and the staffing office. This role plays a critical part in driving improvements in patient experience, clinical quality, staff engagement, and operational efficiency—while fostering a culture of equity, inclusion, and excellence.

As a key nursing leader, the Director ensures adherence to regulatory standards, supports high-reliability practices, and promotes innovation in patient care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Department Oversight:
    • Lead operations for assigned nursing departments, currently including Med/Surg, telemetry, and centralized staffing. Ensure alignment with system-wide goals, quality standards, and patient care objectives.
  • Staff Leadership & Development:
    • Hire, mentor, and retain a high-performing and diverse team. Promote professional development, accountability, and workforce planning strategies that support consistent, high-quality care.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other health professionals to coordinate care, optimize patient outcomes, and enhance interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Quality & Performance Improvement:
    • Develop and implement data-driven strategies to improve clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and nurse-sensitive indicators. Support continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practices.
  • Financial & Operational Management:
    • Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation. Ensure efficient operations, cost containment, and appropriate use of clinical resources.
  • Patient-Centered Care & Health Equity:
    • Foster an inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of patients and families. Promote equitable care delivery and culturally competent practices across all teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation:
    • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body standards. Maintain readiness for inspections, proactively address risks, and implement corrective action plans as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
    • Current Michigan RN licensure.
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
    • Proven history of driving change, delivering results, and improving patient outcomes in a clinical environment.
    • Leading in an environment that embraces diversity, fostering inclusivity among physicians, staff, and patients from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

       

  • Preferred Skills:
    • RN with a master’s degree in nursing, Health Administration, or Business Administration (or enrollment in an accredited program with completion within two years).
    • High level of integrity, energy, and service orientation, committed to fostering a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive work environment.
