PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
People
1. Maintains effective, professional, and appropriate communication during all interactions.
2. Identifies issues and problems related to patients, staff, and self, and communicates with the responsible RN (i.e. patient complaints, physician inquiries, staffing issues, assignment problems).
3. Actively participates in the shared governance process to promote nursing and team practice.
4. Must meet or exceed customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS Customer Service Policy and are summarized as follows:
Service
1. Maintains O.R. Master Schedule with additions and cancellations as indicated.
2. Inputs all necessary patient information into PEMS and SIS Surgical Information System. Keeps PEMS and SIS current and relays patient room assignments to nursing personnel/charge nurse.
3. Proper maintenance and accurate plating of all necessary paperwork, i.e. O.R. packs, assuring accurate patient identification and date.
4. Answers telephone for all calls coming into the Perioperative area and follows through appropriately. Takes and relays messages quickly. Provides information to callers as directed, assuring privacy and security of information at all times. Provides pre-surgical information to patients as directed.
5. Provides assistance, guidance, and direction to all visitors, patients and HFH staff.
6. Orders stock/forms as delegated to assure adequate supplies and forms; maintains all dated supplies within usable dates.
7. Communicates with unit staff and other departments such as EKG, Radiology, Anesthesia, IPD nursing, Admitting, regarding patient and unit needs including x-ray, blood delivery, patient special care beds, etc.
8. Assists in the orientation of all new clerical staff. Is a role model for all personnel to learn in an open-minded atmosphere.
9. Initiates appropriate procedure through Service Response Center to accomplish necessary repairs in the area and assists in preventative maintenance.
10. Performs all other related clerical duties within scope of practice.
11. Must practice and lead by example the customer service Standards of Excellence.

1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
2. Maintains a clean, safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
3. Recognizes and responds to emergencies and alarms and immediately communicates situation to appropriate persons.
4. Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.
5. Performs general clerical and housekeeping duties as assigned.
6. Ensures an adequate stock of all clerical and office supplies, assures proper functioning maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in the work environment; must be able to read, write, and speak English. Computer skills required.
- Physical ability to lift supplies and equipment.
- Successful completion of 120-day introductory period required to achieve knowledge of policies relative to job duties and patient care unit.
G14: $12.07
This rate is the minimum pay for the position. Actual compensation will be based on education, years of experience, and other factors at the time of offer
