EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of progressively more responsible experience including leadership of complex Total Rewards teams, along with managing and implementing compensation, benefits, and/or retirement programs in a healthcare system or related customer service-oriented business. Advanced degree preferred (MBA, JD, etc.).  Certification preferred (CCP, CBP, SPHR).
  • In-depth knowledge of current compensation and benefits principles, practices and methodologies. 
  • Extensive understanding of the complex and competitive environment of health care systems, or proven success in a highly complex, multi-site environment.  Knowledge of health care issues such as financing of health services, regulations, competition and the roles of government and the private sector regarding the organization and the delivery of care preferred.
  • Adaptability, innovative and analytical ability to visualize, conceptualize and assimilate well in a high pressure, unstructured, fast paced, dynamic and multi-faceted environment.  Ability to think creatively and possess foresight and mature professional judgment. Ability to act quickly and responsively on new initiatives, anticipate opportunities, and develop and implement new and innovative ways to do business.
  • Exceptional leadership, management and facilitation skills. Ability to skillfully and tactfully counsel, guide, collaborate and negotiate; create alliances and work effectively with diverse groups and interests.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated strong negotiation skills to present advisory, persuasive and authoritative recommendations to senior management, leadership, committees, boards, all levels of management and various internal and external constituents.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong teams, working relationships and partnerships. Ability to influence results and tactfully manage complex relationships and influences across the organization and to effectively represent the system to varied and diverse internal and external groups.
  • Proven strategic decision-making capabilities and ability to understand inherent risks and the implications of decisions of all constituents.  Advanced project management skills and abilities to lead total reward initiatives, provide effective solutions and manage needed resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • A servant leader with high emotional intelligence and critical thinking.
  • Ability to understand and effectively utilize new technology and methodologies to meet strategic goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in program strategy and design, long-term compensation and benefits schemes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective and successful incentive reward structures and programs.
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal legislation and regulatory agency guidelines. Knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA , STARK and emerging regulatory issues and knowledge of managing 401(k), 403(b) and 457 retirement programs is highly desired.
  • Ability to work with highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Henry Ford Health System.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. 
  • Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities, and be able to prioritize and balance the requirements of working with the MO/SOs.
  • Must be able to travel to the various HFHS sites (approximately 10%).
