Network DC Engineer | Full Time
DESCRIPTION:
The Network Data Center Engineer provides support for data center LANs, WAN connections, and application performance troubleshooting. This individual is responsible for delivery of new functionality, day-to-day operations, and participating in break/fix activities supporting the Enterprise HFHS Networks.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor the day-to-day operations of the data network within his/her defined scope
- Provide technical assistance and resolution for network incidents and problems
- Recommend and assist with the implementation of complex upgrades and improvements to the data network as assigned \
- Work with other infrastructure groups and end-users to identify and troubleshoot performance issues in an enterprise environment
- Monitor the installation, maintenance, and monitoring systems of the Clients' network
- Apply advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently
- Bring successful resolution to high-impact, complex and/or cross-functional problems
- Act as an Operations stakeholder for new infrastructure implementations, providing feedback and acceptance to the design team
- Develop mentoring materials and communicate methodology improvements to the technical team
- Ensure all network infrastructure complies with current standards
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or related work experience.
- Five years or more experience designing and implementing comprehensive network solutions using Avaya, Cisco, or Extreme Products.
- Training/familiarity with Nortel and Cisco architecture and design practices.
- Training and/or Industry recognized certifications with designing, maintaining and interconnecting wide area networks.
- Firm understanding of the OSI model.
- Three to seven (3-7) years of experience in a large, complex network environment using Avaya/Nortel 86xx, 55xx, 25xx, Cisco Nexus (7000, 55xx and 2xxx) and Cisco 65xx, 45xx, 3xxx series switches.
- Demonstrated experience and strong fundamental knowledge working with the IP packet capture tools such as Solarwinds, Netscout, Infinsteam, etc.
- Five to 10 years of proven success of the above job description responsibilities with experience in support of a multi-location enterprise wide area network, preferred.
- Hands-on experience with the above listed solutions, preferred.
Technologies
- Advanced knowledge of network virtualization technologies including MPLS, VRF, VLAN, and VSS.
- Advanced knowledge of tunneling protocols including IPSEC, GRE, and L2TPv3.
- Data Center and high availability design experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Quality of Service.
- Experience with VOIP components and converged networks
- Experience with network security standards.
Hardware
- Knowledge of Avaya, Cisco, and Juniper network hardware models including:
- Routers,
- Switches,
- Firewalls,
- Load balancers,
- Packet Analysis,
- WAN Accelerators.
