GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision of the Project Manager or other assigned personnel designs, codes and tests program logic in order to meet systems requirements identified by systems analysis and technical support personnel. Analyzes test data, program logic and test results in order to determine proper program execution and procedures. Serves as a systems analysis and technical resource for applications support personnel and functions as project leader as assigned.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translates systems requirements defined by systems analysis and technical support personnel into appropriate programming format. Designs data collection, processing and control procedures; develops file structures; evaluates data communication or technical needs and interfaces with systems users in order to assist in the design and specification of data processing systems.
  • Uses programming and job control languages to design, develop and test program logic in order to modify and maintain existing programs or develop new programs.
  • Analyzes test data, program logic and test results in order to determine proper program execution and procedures. Oversees systems testing and implementation.
  • Prepares progress reports on assigned work and fulfills other administrative reporting requirements as indicated.
  • Serves as project leader by monitoring and directing work activities of analysts, programmers and documentation analysts in order to ensure proper program design, coding, testing, implementation, documentation and post implementation review as assigned.
  • Serves as a systems analysis and technical resource for applications, support personnel.
  • Interfaces with clients" management, operations and technical support personnel in order to gather and interpret data, determine optimal systems approach, evaluate technology, report findings and resolve systems related problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A technical level of knowledge in programming, job control languages and systems design concepts such as that acquired through the completion of two to three years of college level coursework in computer sciences, programming or a related field or the equivalent in related work experience required.
  • A minimum of four years programming and data communication experience with systems analysis skills required for specification development, required.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Master’s Degree in software development, computer science and three years of experience or a PhD in software development, computer science preferred.
  • Programing experience with one or more of C/C++, .Net, Asp, PHP, Metlab, scripting languages (perl, ruby, etc.) and web programming. 
  • Demonstrates ability to work to written specifications, works collaboratively, documents code, and uses best practices (code version control tools).
  • Biomedical application development with an emphasis on numerical demanding applications such as image processing or similar biomedical problems.
  • Platform and applications support in a Windows 7, Windows server and/or Linux environment; specific expertise with Linux cluster would be valuable.
