We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as the Coordinator of Inpatient Nursing (IPD)—a highly visible clinical support and leadership role within a fast-paced acute care environment. This position is ideal for a confident, skilled RN who thrives on collaboration, critical thinking, and stepping into complex clinical situations with calm precision.
You will function as a key clinical resource for the unit, supporting bedside teams, responding to urgent patient care needs, and ensuring safe, efficient progression of care across the inpatient setting. From admissions to discharges, you will help coordinate care delivery while promoting excellence in nursing practice and patient experience.
General Summary:
Under the direction of the Director or Manager of Unit, provides clinical support at the unit level including but not limited to: assisting with direct patient care as necessary, assisting with patient throughout hospital stay (admissions, discharges, transfers), assessing patient condition, completing clinical tasks (IV's, blood draws, etc.), responds to all clinical emergency situations and recognizes, resolves and reports immediate situations that jeopardizes patient rights, safety and/or customer service. Coaches patient care unit staff in clinical practice, critical thinking and customer service skill development. Coordinates bed utilization within inpatient hospital patient care units.
What You’ll Do
- Provide real-time clinical leadership and support across inpatient units
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and inter-unit patient transfers
- Perform and support clinical procedures (IV starts, blood draws, etc.)
- Respond to all clinical emergencies and critical patient situations
- Identify, resolve, and escalate patient safety and care concerns
- Coach and mentor nursing staff in clinical judgment and best practices
- Support hospital throughput through effective bed utilization coordination
- Strengthen patient experience through teamwork and communication
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong telemetry experience required
- Experience managing cardiac drips required
- Prior leadership or charge nurse experience strongly preferred
- 2–3 years of acute care nursing experience required
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment
Certifications & Licensure
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse License required
- BCLS (Healthcare Provider certification) required
- ACLS preferred
- NIHSS certification required or must be obtained
Education
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
