GENERAL SUMMARY: 
Under general supervision, administers radiation treatments to patients, as prescribed by the physician utilizing specialized equipment including Magnetic Resonance (MR) linear accelerator and Computed Tomography (CT). Also performs the duties of a staff Radiation Therapist on an ongoing basis. 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Coordinates all MR activities, including equipment maintenance, patient scheduling, patient screening and patient education. 
  • Administers radiation treatments to patients, as prescribed by the physician, utilizing specialized equipment including MR linear accelerator and Computed Tomography. 
  • Controls all access to Zone III and Zone IV while ensuring departmental adherence to MR safety rules and regulations. 
  • Performs safety screening process on all patients and non-MRI personnel entering Zone IV. 
  • Successfully completes all required competencies annually, including but not limited to: Radiation Therapy, ViewRay Radiation Therapy, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance. 
  • Maintains knowledge and uses Safety resources, including, but not limited to: Safety Policy, MRI Protocol, IDX, MagResource, Implant Manufacturers, Epic and CPNG. As well as CT/MR Guided Simulation, including optimal imaging position, optimal planning position, optimal machine clearance position and coil placement. 
  • Performs increased number of quality assurance checks for MR-Guided Radiotherapy (e.g., ViewRay Treatment Plan Reports, Live-Tracking Parameters, Adaptive Guidelines and Constraints). 
  • Participates in MR research and development consent and scanning procedures. 
  • Participates in ViewRay Site Visitor Program. 

Radiation Therapist-Principle Duties & Responsibilities 
  • Reviews patient prescriptions to ascertain type of treatment required, location of affected areas, history of previous radiation treatment, etc. 
  • Safely positions patients utilizing immobilization devices. 
  • Utilizes appropriate treatment accessories as prescribed by the physician. 
  • Operates treatment machine (MR linear accelerator) precisely. 
  • Administers ionizing radiation as prescribed per physician. Verifies radiation prescription prior to treatment and confirms total radiation dose following treatment in patient charts. 
  • Documents treatment in-patient charts. 
  • Localizes patient markings daily. 
  • Completes on-going imaging of patients per departmental policy. 
  • Assists patients in coordinating appointment time for daily treatments, accommodating patient transportation, and other appointments. 
  • Refers patients to social worker for counseling, transportation and medical equipment needs, etc. as appropriate. 
  • Refers patients to nurse or physician for conditions requiring evaluation, as appropriate. 
  • Assumes the duties of simulation. 
  • Rotates through treatment areas as assigned. 
  • Responsible for cleaning therapy rooms and work area (Zone III and Zone IV); maintains linen and medical supplies for treatment and simulation room. 
  • Adheres to the quality assurance policies of the department (chart checks, time-outs, machine warm-up, etc.). 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Radiation Therapy. 
  • Two (2) years of general radiation therapy experience. 
  • One (1) year of general radiation simulation experience. 
  • One (1) year of Stereotactic Radiosurgery experience. 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: 
  • A.R.R.T. Radiation Therapy Technology Certification. 
  • Must maintain continued education credits. 
  • Must maintain BLS Healthcare Provider Licensure. 
  • Meets MR Therapy Technologist certification requirements within 90 days of hire. 
    • Failure to obtain certification within designated timeframe will result in termination of employment.
