GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Construction Services completes a variety of duties in addition to painting, which includes wall papering, plastering, partitioning, floor tiling, roofing and the like. Performs other duties as directed.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares areas for work by removing furniture, fixtures, masking with tape and paper and positioning drop cloths. May erect scaffolding.

  • Utilizes varnish, wood stain, lacquer, epoxy finish, enamel, primer, spray paints, or premixed paints to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures. Blends colors or mixes paint to desired color or to match with existing colors.

  • Repairs holes and cracks in walls constructed of plaster with putty or other fillers.

  • Tapes and muds newly constructed drywall walls.

  • Restores surfaces by filling nail holes and cracks with caulk.

  • Prepares walls and adheres wall coverings with wall paper paste.

  • Measures rooms and installs new floor tile, cover base, vinyl covering, or repairs existing tile, cover base or vinyl.

  • Removes or installs drywall, drop ceilings or vinyl wall coverings.

  • Plasters walls and ceilings.

  • Performs tar roofing or reparation as needed.

  • Assists with masonry work by mixing mud and concrete, using jackhammers to remove concrete or sandblasting.

  • Completes fireproofing with a hopper gun and trowel after asbestos removal.

  • May assist in demolition prior to construction and hauls trash and other debris as directed by supervisor.

  • Performs other related duties as directed.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school or G.E.D. equivalent required.

  • Three (3) years of experience as a painter or related experience in order to perform the variety of work required.

  • Commercial experience preferred.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Requires the physical ability to stand, bend, and kneel for long periods of time, possibly on ladders or scaffolding. It also requires extensive walking, arm usage and lifting a variety of tools and equipment.

  • Frequent exposure to toxic fumes, flammable material, harsh chemicals, falling debris, and dust.

  • Frequent exposure to fluctuating temperatures due to indoor/outdoor work.

  • Some risk involved in climbing ladders and scaffolding.
