POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Administrative accountability for leading, managing, developing, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of patient care.  Manages and collaborates relationships with leadership members, physicians, for the care of responsible patient populations

  • Assures professional, clinical, and educational excellence in the provision of quality care to patients.  Facilitates empowerment of staff in the implementation of creative and innovative patient care delivery models and stimulates a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach in the continuous improvement of patient care services 

  • In conjunction with the Unit Medical Director, assumes responsibility for fiscal management of the unit

 

UNIT OVERVIEW:

The Henry Ford Hospital transplant unit is a newly remodeled 20 bed transplant unit. This unit cares for patients who have had liver, kidney, or pancreas transplants, the donors who donated those organs, and patients who have had hepatobiliary surgeries. This unit is one of two multi-organ transplant centers in Michigan.

Family members are able to spend the night with the patients. It is not uncommon for patients to have episodes of rejection, and they are readmitted to the unit where they feel safe and comfortable with our staff. Education is vitally important to transplant patients, and the transplant unit has a nurse to patient ratio that allows the nurse ample time to spend with patients and their families. The unit uses self-scheduling and strives to accommodate the unique work-life needs of each employee. 

The unit has a family atmosphere and an excellent working relationship/collaboration with the Physicians and PAs.

 

Henry Ford Hospital’s top priorities are patient safety, patient care, and customer service.

Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI’s) have continued to decrease for the last 4 years.

Nurses are educated and trained on fall prevention procedures and hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPI’s).

The hospital has a designated PICC team who continually work to decrease central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI’s).

A designated IV team within the hospital does the majority of IV insertions.

A designated Rapid Response team responds to patients who code.

The hospital is on a shared governance nursing practice model.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or completion of other formal nursing education necessary to obtain/maintain an advanced practice nursing Michigan license (Midwife, CRNA, CNS, or Nurse Practitioner) is required. Master's Degree in Nursing, Business, Health Management or other related field preferred

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an acute setting with progressive nursing leadership responsibilities

  • Knowledge of quality management and service excellence

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills that provides coaching and facilitation expertise

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrates innovative, creative leadership style

     

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES:

  • Current license to practice in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse

  • BCLS/ACLS certification as required per unit standards

     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent walking, bending, and lifting may be required to perform duties

  • Working conditions are variable with exposure to communicable diseases and other hazards

  • Driving may be required dependent on specialty
