Minimum Education
Graduate from High School or equivalent.

Minimum Work Experience

Required Licenses/Certifications
Active Medical Assistant (MA) certification, LPN license in the State of Michigan, RN license in State of Michigan, or valid RT(R) credentials. MA certification should be from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National HealthCareer Association’s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), and National Center for Competency Testing National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
If not currently registered or certified, candidates must be eligible to sit for the certification exam for either the CMA, certified through the American Association of Medical Assistants RMA, certified through American Medical Technologists CCMA, certified through the National HealthCareer Association or NCMR, certified through the National Center for Competency Testing AND obtain certification within 6 months from the date of hire.
BLS certification within three (3) months of hire.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Understanding of medical terminology and pharmacology.
Must have working knowledge of computer/technology used in medical practice environment such as Microsoft Office, Electronic Medical Record and patient scheduling applications.
Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.
Ability to problem-solve.
Excellent customer service skills.
No previous record of patient abuse.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree strongly preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience working in a medical office setting is preferred for Specialty practices.
Training in EKG, POCT and Phlebotomy (may be required for specific practices and area needs)
Active BLS certification.
Epic (Electronic Medical Record) experience.
LADDER OF ADVANCEMENT
Medical Assistant I: New Medical Assistants who have yet to obtain certification
Medical Assistant II: Advance once certification is obtained and verified through certifying organization
