Under the supervision of the site Team Leader and licensed Audiologists, performs various hearing aid clinic duties. Communicates effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians and other system employees as needed regarding patient care needs, and adequately documents all aspects of patient treatment for review and co-signature by the assigned supervising audiologist. Completes necessary and accurate patient billing information.


  • Input patient information into E-Audio/I-Pad.
  • Supervision of Wayne State students with the walk in clinic
  • Performs hearing aid clinic duties, which include the following: obtaining needed test results, medical clearance documentation, along with insurance verification.
  • Responsible for the supply inventory, maintenance, & ordering by telephone or internet.
  • Checks in all hearing aids and sorts mail received in the Division of Audiology. Prepare hearing aids and other devices for patients. Include gathering needed supplies for patient appointments and verifying function of hearing aids. Includes, connecting hearing aids to the NOAH system, and/or running appropriate tests on hearing aids.
  • Prepares hearing aids and related devices for shipping.
  • Includes clerical duties such as filing charts, printing schedules and verifying patients are appropriately scheduled, returning phone calls, assisting patients in scheduling appointments and keeping work areas clean. Include determining the need for, and rescheduling of patients appointments when needed.
  • Direct patient care duties include greeting patients and determining source(s) of hearing aid problems, otoscopic evaluation and other troubleshooting, as well as determining the need for audiologist and/or physician consultation. Educates patients via a demonstration, in the use of assistive listening devices, supplies, and batteries, etc.
  • Notifies audiologist of any changes in the patient’s condition, or other concerns pertinent to audiological care.
  • Assists in organization of workshops and promotional events offered by the Division
  • Enters data and maintains database of hearing aid delivery, returns and repairs.
  • May also include monitoring of the third party insurance payments.


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-3 months on-the-job training.
  • Must attend HFHS training on CarePlus and EPIC, as well as Outlook training and/or competency.
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills desired.
  • Must demonstrate good customer skills through on-going training and in-services.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the hearing-impaired population, in person and on the telephone.
  • Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision when appropriate.
  • May include working at other HFHS Audiology locations during training. May also involve temporary work at other locations in case of staffing emergencies (to be decided at the discretion of the managing Audiologists and Division Director).
