A new opportunity is available for a 40 hour per week ER Tech Asst. for the Emergency Room at the Henry Ford Hospital in midtown Detroit. This ER is the busiest Level I trauma center in the state and rivals any large urban hospital ER in the country.

• Position: 36 or 40 hours
• Shift: Midnight rotating shifts / Weekend rotations after unit training
• Benefits: Full time benefit package

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
• Assists with patient care based on individual needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of a RN or Physician. (Includes Foley catheters, EKG’s, and NG tubes.)
• The department encompasses 38,000 square feet and provides care for approximately 93,000 ED patients annually. Twenty-four percent of the patients seen are admitted, and 44 percent of all hospital patients are admitted through the Emergency Department.
• The patient mix consists of 17% critically ill, 52% emergent care, 19% pediatrics, and all others 12%.
• The department consists of 30 senior staff physicians and 52 residents in three training tracks (EM, EM/Internal Medicine and EM/IM/Critical Care). There are over 300 RNs and support personnel employed full-time by the department.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists RNs and physicians with assessments, examinations and treatments as requested.
• Prepares and assists physician with procedures such as surturing prep and sterile trays, application of casts, or other procedures.
• Recognizes potentially life threatening dysrhythmias and abnormal vital signs and reports same to RN/provider.
• Documents patient care performed, including vital signs.
• Cleans equipment, monitor stock and restocks equipment and supplies as required.
• Assists in ordering routine equipment; maintains sufficient quantities of stretchers, wheelchairs, suction equipment, etc. in ER area.
• Transports patients and supplies.
• Maintains departmental cleanliness and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.
• Maintains knowledge and utilization of limited high tech emergency and non-emergency equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Previous ER Technician or MA experience required.
• BLS/CPR certification required.

LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
One of four certifications required:
• B-EMT
• Graduate Medical Assistant from an approved program.
• Completion of a formal nursing education program to practice as an RN offshore.
• Completion of a formal medical doctor education program to practice as a medical doctor offshore.
• EMT license preferred.
• Successful completion of a 180 day orientation period required.
